Hey Guys! Im back with another coding project.
Ever Wondered how many upvotes/downvotes a certain user has or which user has the highest upvote/downvote ratio on vlr? This is where my project might come in handy...

THE STATS ARE FOLLOWING:

The Scores of all "Positive Comments" summed up, The Scores of all "Negative Comments" summed up, and finally all the scores summed up to get a +/-.

NOTE:

Due to technical limitations, this is a uploading list, as i will be doing the users one by one. Feel free to suggest users i should do next. --> I will only implement it if its technically feasible.
I will start off with squirrelliest, as an appreciation for all the legitimate leaks so far!

How about saving the other comments you pull in a cache somewhere so that you don't need to pull info again and again? Unless ofc there is some API endpoint that gives you info on one particular comment.

Currently the program only scrapes the comments by user
So the only parameter i use for the entire code is basically the username

If i would do it how you recommended, it would scrape all the other comments from other users aswell and save them sowhere, am i right? But that would just take up too much space and i would have bunch of comments of users i potentially would never do

Do you not scrape the entire site one at a time? Also regarding space. I think it will take some GBs. Not more than that. Most comments on VLR are y0y which barely takes 6 bytes excluding any headers.

You could try out redis and give each comment an unique ID. If it takes too much space maybe try Mongo or somthing.

I don't think there is an VLR API that you could use to fetch individual comments. Unless of course you have figured something out.

Caching pages will save you a considerable amount of time once you start doing it for a lot of users. Especially new users.

but it might take a while.

you have 8600 posts, the processing time is actually not based on the amount of posts, but rather on the amount of individual threads you commented on

that means if you posted these 8600 posts spread out on 10 threads, it will get done significantly quicker than lets say spread over 2000 threads.

but it will take around 30 minutes up to an hour

Yeah, it would be a lot easier if VLR stored the post # in the profile.

Otherwise i assume you would loop through a users profile and store all the links in a hashset.
once that is done loop through the hashset and sum the fragscore.

something along those lines (when doing it user by user).
atleast thats what i would try to do in java.
