Same thing as other thread, but the other way around.

Gimme some specifics
For example, I'm ashamed at how corrupted our country is, ex-president was literally following orders from some guru and killed a bunch of young kids in a ferry.
I'm also ashamed of how many right-wing 친일파 there are.

If I have to say something specific, I would say the quality of life in Brazil it's terrible
killjoysfriday [#8]warmongering and arrogance i really live in a dogshit country
canada has so many fucking issues rn, from housing inflation to political corruption
Ig the 400 year of Islamic rule and 200 year of British rule....the fact that the country couldn't defend itself because it was mostly divided into princely states and people from the same sects were extremely prejudiced against each other that they forgot that most of them share the same cultural history and would rather work with the foreign tyrants to overthrow their political enemy than to forget small grudges and protect their motherland from the abomination that was about to come

it's actually hard to put specific things that makes Brazil a piece of shit
our people always elect corrupt politicians or memes
most of the people in Brazil are envious when we're talking about other people having good opportunities in life
the criminal rate are REALLY high
the salaries are trash, it's like 5 times below the necessary to live normally
justice is almost inexistent in our country

it's interesting how brazilians and portuguese are the extreme opposite, even though we've been the same people for centuries
Portugal one of the least violent and safest countries in the world... An average portuguese speaks spanish and english, and they are among the best english speakers in the world
while brazil has low education, can't even speak portuguese properly, and one of the most violent countries in the world
some sociologists like Jessé Souza say that it's a legacy from slavery that perpetuated inequality and violence in the country

US -
Outlandish and disrespectful culture
The government giving unregulated power to the states to take away / suppress rights of minorities
Economic system providing corporations free reign to set living/health/environment standards to their profit motives
Patriotic/nativism society/world view
Downplaying the American Indian extermination/slavery/oppression of minorities/colonialism/undemocratic overthrows of governments etc…
Australia -
Downplaying the abuses to the indigenous population
Crazy politicians and moderate view of substantial change.
(I’m sure there’s other things but I haven’t lived there in years and I went to an American high school )
MerkFreeks [#57]The way the US also calculates gun deaths. It includes suicides, accidental discharges, and legitimate self defense into that, which make up more than half of all gun related deaths. Mass shootings are also a really small percentage compared to even single homocide instances.
There are still 309 mass shootings in just half a year. I doubt many suicides, accidental discharges, or self defense cases fall under that category. 309 is still a worrying number.

Hindu nationalistic ideas came from the stuff I stated above.... because of how divided Hindus in the Indian Subcontinent were around the time of Muslim Invasions and stuff... people tend to promote supremacist ideas and have gone a bit too extreme to make up for the past differences between the different sects of Hindus. But again it's not that prevelant and will only be found in specific cities just like u can find Radical Muslim ideas in Kerela/Kashmir and some other parts of the country. Extremist ideas has been a part of India for quite some time now and it's usually a "they did it first so we are taking our revenge" kind of thing which is another thing that I'm ashamed of...also the caste system again is something u will find Only in specific parts of the country and I'm not saying it doesn't exist but it has been reduced a lot. I guess u are a foreigner and so u don't know most of the ground reality of India and is only aware of what ur media feeds u but it's not ur fault and neither ur responsibility to learn about my country.... I guess the main issue that's holding India back is a lot is the extreme prejudice amongst people...for e.g North India is extremely rude to South India and vice versa...also not a lot of people care about North East India due to which they don't feel connected to the country (this has changed a bit in recent times tho).
I would say even though we have cultural diversity and stuff it's just that there are a lot of instances of like communal violence I am sure most of the Indians in the chat would agree. Corruption exists. And there is inequality where like there is a huge difference between the rich and the poor. There are some more but am not gonna list them :)

People with mentality from years ago, keeping racism for no reason. Still when I'm on the bus people prefer to stand up instead of sitting next to me 🙂 when it is full. Feels like a punch on the stomach but I already got used to it, they look at me but don't seat 👍. Sometimes I go to restaurants, ppl look at me too much for no reason but alright.
Corruption, idk if it's coincidence but many ex-portuguese colonies seem to have corruption as a problem as well.
I'm sorry for saying but "sucking on doctors", the grades necessary to go to an Uni in order to be a Doctor really high compared to some countries and sometimes even if u have them sometimes you can't go to the uni u want. They have great salaries compared to others which i think is more and less justified cuz of the amount of years spent studying. People switch when they meet a doctor, for example my mom when they notice she is a doctor they be acting different and suddenly tend to become nicer and try to get her number.
If you're black when you go to an interview of work sometimes you can have better grades and capacities than others, and still have others be chosen over you or be underpaid. One of the few exceptions are doctors ig.
About newzealand, nothing, near perfect place to live

Chaebol - basically your typical cyberpunk megacorporation is real. Samsung is such a huge factor in our economy that if it were to fail our country would collapse. This is what happens when you invest in a few big companies to drive you to the top.
Materialistic desire - lots of Koreans have an unhealthy view on society. You must be rich, you must be attractive, you must wear good clothing and drive an expensive car. You must own a good house. A lot of success depends on how much wealth you have. Either that, or it depends on how academically proven you are (notice how I didn't say smart, or intelligent - Korea's education system is quite dependant on memorisation over critical thinking. I got a 1580 on the SAT and attend a prestigious university in the States, yet if I were to have applied to Korean universities I would probably be attending some third-rate college in a rural area. I also attended public school in Korea, so I was not at all likely to apply to a US university instead of a Korean one.)
Insane extremism - the country is socially divided between men and women. A lot of men in Korea DESPISE women, and feminism. This is because the early feminists in Korea were feminazis instead of promoters of equality. They would often talk misandry and essentially ruined the foundation for healthy social activism in regards to gender equality. As a result, there is a strong anti-woman mentality in Korea, and it really makes life for women hell. Another case of extremism is the Internet culture. A lot of people have been driven to suicide due to harassment online. And the Korean language really cuts into your soul, unlike English. This shit HURTS. Idk how to explain it but it's like a fucking dagger.

yeah, it's really fucked. A side of the country that should be discussed more often - and you can only tell if you've been here for a decent while, because it's quite subliminal.
KoreanOverlord [#29]Ill have a jab at it
Mainstream media and mass censorship
Corrupted financial institutions with extreme malpractice
Fake democracy ran by corporations
History of slavery and colonization
World exporter of arms, warmongering
Global hegemony
Debauchery
Arrogance
Ignorance
Complacency
I think thats the jist of it
SK’s media is actual dogshit don’t even get me started.
Yes the financial institutions that made the U.S. one of the most prosperous counties in the world
“Fake democracy ran by corporations”; good try buddy it’s cute that you think you know so much
SK abolished slavery 30 years after the U.S. did and it took them another 40 years to “completely” while it out.
And while we’re on the discussion of discrimination, SK is notoriously bad about being unaccepting of any LGBTQ rights.
The U.S. gave you your freedom
Global hemegony suggests our ability to influence EVERY other country with political, financial, or military power. Ask Ukrain if we are seriously influencing Russia.
Debauchery: this is very true i’ll give you that
Arrogance, ignorance, and complacency is everywhere in the world. I mean look at you. You have the arrogance to sit here and say several things about another country, that from the sounds of it you don’t live in, that are simply untrue thus resulting in ignorance. See? You did the same thing you accused the general population of the U.S. of.
TmhariMummy [#98]Hindu nationalistic ideas came from the stuff I stated above.... because of how divided Hindus in the Indian Subcontinent were around the time of Muslim Invasions and stuff... people tend to promote supremacist ideas and have gone a bit too extreme to make up for the past differences between the different sects of Hindus.
Yea I’m a foreigner but my Indian friends talk about it all the time.

TS_ChedZ [#88]we're getting better at reconciliation. Anthony Albanese has sworn to re-visit the Uluru Statement From The Heart, that will be a massive step forward.
i cant believe this only happening now
xiphon [#77]alot of suicides because of how much late stage capitalism is affecting us
I know this is a political thread, but i saw that Finnish flag and i couldn't resist the urge to make a suicide joke. XD
KoreanOverlord [#157]Ur precisely the reason americans (me) are ashamed of other americans (you) lol
i could say the exact same for you, not appreciating the place that gives you life and opportunity, its absolutely disgusting
rishu004 [#82]inherent casteism of our country. idolising the made up concept of meritocracy where there is a large wealth gap between different sections of the society
Meritocracy is made up? News to me.
Plus if you were going to support reservations by citing the wealth gap, it won't work since reservations could easily be based on the annual income instead of which family you were born in.
workplace/corporate culture
media
socially our country is one of the most divided (in gender)
beauty standards are absolutely insane, this was very eye opening when i lived in the US
education. just. dont even get me started on it. i was able to get into a top university in the US despite being an "average" student in korea. i was VERY glad that i chose to study abroad.

u think people from marginalized castes dont get discriminated upon if they are from a rich backdrop. u realise u r living in a brahmanical bubble right? caste reservation is less about giving economic handouts and more about giving equal representation to different sects of the society. as far as poor people are concerned even they have reserved seats for them
KoreanOverlord [#3]Gimme some specifics
For example, I'm ashamed at how corrupted our country is, ex-president was literally following orders from some guru and killed a bunch of young kids in a ferry.
I'm also ashamed of how many right-wing 친일파 there are.
what does 친일파 mean??
spookmeister [#195]what does 친일파 mean??
Pro-Imperial Japan Koreans. These people are the people who made major contributions in making the japanese occupation of Korea happen, selling their country and their own people for their own profit. The thing is, the descendants of these "친일파" are mostly living prosperous and wealthy lives currently without being persecuted.
It's just controversial bc their excellent QOL is commonly compared to the poor QOL of the descendants of many independent activists/war veterans.
im ashamed/hate how anti-intellectual the Philippines is.
filipinos shame other filipinos if they bring an intelligent opinion/point into the conversation. if ever they say something knowledgeable people will just brush it off and say:
"edi wow" (kinda like "oh wow" but with a sarcastic tone)
"ikaw na magaling" ("you're the best" again with a sarcastic tone)
"wa may nangutana"(this is in bisaya but other regional languages have their equivalent to this it translates as "nobody asked")
Filipinos and a lot of asian countries are collectivist in value that's why if someone stands out society tends to pull them back down.

aha so basically theyre boot-lickers, and they got rewarded for it. Unfortunate.

no1haterbutloveyou2 [#206]if all sides unite, yes this is a good side
in theory, yes, communism, if achieved will be the best society has ever been. however, that's very hard to achieve, and to this day, there hasn't been a true communist nation.
