Why do people think he's ass? Whenever I watched G2 matches, he always had a significant presence in the server. He was better than OXY for sure. He was definitely top 5

He was NOT top 5 but he was definitely an important piece of that G2 puzzle
You don't win games against good teams if one of your player is being a bum and G2 did win plenty of games against good teams.
He was enough for games where the stakes weren't that high, but got diffed when star power really mattered, in big games.
In other words, he was enough until he wasn't.

Nah, he was good at making space, being agro. Did what leaf couldn't during the raze meta, which is why they chose to sign him.

As the user you replied to said, he just didn't have high enough peaks in high stakes games. Jawg is an immediate upgrade because he has shown to have the same skill set, but with more consistency, a broader agent pool, and greater highs.

The thing with Icy is that he will do the right thing and exactly what the team wants him to do no matter the situation. Comparing him to duelists like Jawg or Oxy, they know when to use their instinct to take risks and their skill is good enough to capitalize on those risks which Icy doesn't have in his play.

I also don't think G2 will be significantly better this year than last year due to a single roster move. I have G2 in my top 2, but that's because G2 was top 2 last year and I don't feel teams will likely have the synergy that they have yet

Also, those who say icy couldn't frag when it mattered are the ones that forget he aced against both Gen.G and Team Heretics at Shanghai

Yeah, I lowkey can't argue that, but they were 2 players down in that situation so that risk was 100% the best thing to go for. I was thinking more of moments where it's not the "smartest" play.

This is just speculation but I feel like Icy, in this situation, after getting the first would hold and wait for his team to take contact before swinging again.

This might have been a set strat, but they are man-up, anti eco, and he swings into their spawn. They are also up a lot so it's not the best clip, but I don't see Icy doing many of these types of plays.

And no icy definitely didn't have a better individual performance than oxy last year
The only reason g2 didn't win shi was because their duelist wasn't on par
Go watch highlights,they were supposed to be the strongest team but their duelist got diffed almost every match

people who think icy is ass are tweaking out. he helped push G2 to better results. its just at the biggest stage you need someone with more experience and firepower since he gets outclassed by duelists like aspas. hes pretty good and can def be a contender in the future for top duelists NA

For me it was bc they kicked Net who wasnt bad for an unproved rookie, who played okay, but i think they would have had similar success with Net on the roster
And everyone knew they wanted Jawg last year and only got Icy as a stop gap

I will never understand people with icy cope. he was undeniably bad. crazily enough its the same people who also flipped to saying qck was good the second he was dropped, along with the same people that said monyet was good the second he was dropped. It just makes no sense.

He was objectively subpar, easily bottom 3. and the success G2 found was in no way shape or form due to his performances.

Its because of the team he was on. People expect him to be like oxy, aspas, or zekken because of how good his teammates are. When compared to his teammates who are some of the best in their individual roles, people think he is ass.

Also better than oxy is crazy. Oxy has some of the best aim in the world (I would argue the best) and just had problems with overheating and some decision making last year.
