and why is it always in EU? I can think of 3 examples on top of my head - ScreaM and Nivera playing their whole careers together, Boo and MiniBoo and now Happy and koalanoob

click is good but hop off his willy will ya, worse stats than koalanoob in one of the easiest VCLs in EMEA while koala is putting up better performance against NA and Ascension teams
stop talking slack abt him, Click is insane, u have to take into consideration that he
and u cant shit on his stats when he was HARDCARRIYNG Sk because they were shit and still got 5th in the league
atm koalabum might be better but Clicks ceiling is just way higher, also isnt it weird that he was basically in the team but because he had no contract a frnch T2 coach decides to kick the german player and puts in his own player from his failed ass dogshit team who hadnt even trials for T1 Na teams bcs they knew he was carried by Zander

u just cant find any koalasht games where he hardcarries
thats it, Click got robbed and i will hate Navi until they r broke
im not talking slack about clicks, just be objective
youre not going to sit here and tell me its nepotism to pick koala over him tho
this isnt a sykko, dephh situation T1 NA teams dont need duelists
im sure koala could hard carry in the german t2 too, so idk why ur shit talking someone whos better than the guy ur repping,
(Sorry this is all under your post gamergirl, reading through your other replies, you have a pretty reasonable take on this whole situation. I just find it easier to have it all in one place rather than spreading it out into 5 replies and your post is what got me to start writing initially so yeeea... 1 draft vlr essay here we go!)
youre not going to sit here and tell me its nepotism to pick koala over him tho
Both can be true though. He can be better and it can still be nepotism.
From "Oxford Languages": "the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs."
They might not be friends, which is why its only close, but the line is very thin here.
Its an unfair advantage that weeks of trials from the existing team to try and find suitable players get overruled by the new coach, only for him to then bring a player he is already more comfortable with.
As I described briefly in another thread, I think its perfectly fine and even correct for Happy to do this (it is his job to make the best roster possible to try and get the org a win), but it is still realistically nepotism though.
What I do want people to understand though is that esports is just filled with it. This is not outragous event; if anything this is expected. Networking is realistically more important than actually being the very best.
To give a prominent example of nepotism:
Think of this like the GE situation (more specifically Polvi since its easier to focus on 1 player). While they got less of an advantage than Koala afaik (just part of the normal trials rather than getting to skip the queue entirely), they got into trials they really shouldnt have.
The coach already knows them and their personalities, and it is reasonable to assume they wouldnt have made the trials if he hadnt.
Polvi was perfectly suitable for the team - preformed decently, consistently getting the highest ACS and entrying for the team. He didnt stand out negatively at all surrounded by the rest of GE. And (very important for last year's GE based on the offseason interviews spin did) his personality matched the rest of the team. He was a great fit.
But should he have been imported? Is it fair to end up "ignoring" the entirety of pacifc t2 to go with an EMEA duelist?
From a fans perspective, definitely no. It just doesnt feel fair. And we want fairness in our esports, even if this notion is just so far removed from reality.
From an orgs perspective, Im pretty confident getting Polvi was the correct move. While still very much mediocre at best, the team surpassed last year's roster (which was filled to the brim with talent), going 4-9 (vs last years 3-8) in a more competitive league. Bad year, but acceptable given that this was a last resort of a roster with all the initial plans falling through. Could have created a decent core for the team to build on in future years if the fan reaction wasnt quite as negative.
We have to consider Polvi a nepotism import, though. Yes, he was the safe option where Spin knew the personality and skill would match the project. But he got favorable treatment due to prior experiences with Spin and BigTime even if he proved himself in trials and ended up doing fine in the context of the team.
Koala will be the same (in the context of his team. NaVi is obviously aiming way higher than GE). Im 99% confident he'll do great. However, it just isnt fair for him to bypass an entire t2 system just because Happy liked him on the old roster. It is the correct move from an orgs perspective, but it still sucks for us fans.
And this isnt the fault of coaches or players to be very clear. It just the industry being about taking the safest options, and that will naturally lead to past teammates/friends getting preferential treatment.
i mean they played years together by now and on day 1, the first thing he does is kick Click bcs he wants Koalabum in his team without trials and stuff, whereas Click has been trialing for weeks now, queuing ranked with Ange1 and Natank and one day to another all of this progress is destroyed bcs of this and imo it is nepotism, even from a game wise situation it would make more sense to bring in Click if we look at Agents pool and Skill Ceiling, imo its absolutely unfair and couldve maybe destroyed the future of germanys biggest talent and imo its also kinda weird that hes a french Coach kicking a german player, so im just saying
Yea it definitely feels off and im convinced click would have been the better option too.
I just find it hard to blame Happy for it rather than just the situation just being so unlucky, since it makes sense from his perspective. He has a super strong roster, banking it all on your star player growing to match international competition is a risk (even if I think its more than worth taking, since it'd set you up for years to come)
ye im talking about improvement of a more fundamental level (which im 100% certain he would have achieved playing actively in a tier 1 environment)
Atm hes requires a lot of support util. He uses it to an exceptional level to be clear (the untraded first kills stat is unreal), but it was a big investment for the rest of SK leaving the rest of the players with a lot less tools.
His playstyle reminds me more of a ranked player being slotted into a team rather than him being part of the team properly (obviously not helped by him only doing pro part time).
Overheats are still relatively common and decision making can be lacking. Especially team macro level stuff seemed like he wasnt really on board or didnt full understand it at times (again, Id blame the part time).
I dont consider them to be great enough risks as to skip him though.
This is all stuff that the team can and will fix as he plays in a proper environment for longer. But it is work and you can be certain he'll continue the current growth trajectory.
I cant really say if this is why Happy looks to be choosing Koala over him, maybe he does just see other advantages in him rather than being scared of potential disadvantages that come with Click.
listen bro, you gotta stop for a second, idk if you think click is cute or something but the obsession is crazy
its nepotism but if you seriously genuinely actually think koalanoob is some bum and not comparable to a guy who plays in german t2 youre tripping
koala is one of the best players across every tier 2, NA just doesnt have enough slots for him to be a T1 player
