is it just me or kobe is literally the most overrated player of all time. He’s like barely top 10 and everyone puts him like top 3-5
Genuinely, how is he top 3-5. He's not better than Wilt, Kareem, Bill Russell, Shaq, Magic, Bird, and Duncan. Kobe and Hakeem is debatable. He's in the lower half of top 10 for sure and that was a popular sentiment before his death. It was only until after his death that some people started putting him at top 3-5; it boosted his hype so much that some even started saying he was the greatest of all time.
That's a lot of assumptions you just made. I've watched a few full games of each of the players I listed except for Wilt and Bill Russell, whom I've only saw clips of. Keep in mind this is the greatest NBA players of all time list, not who I considered to be the most talented or skilled. Just who was the greatest in their era. Every era will have more talented players than the last, there's no doubt about that. If I was really going along with the narratives I would be saying that Kobe is a top 3 player to have ever touched the game, but I just believe that the footage, stats, and accolades tell a different story. Kobe is an amazing player with an amazing mentality, I just don't think he's top 5. Keep in mind this is just my opinion. What is a fact though, is the amount of people pushing the narrative that Kobe was the greatest ever greatly increasing AFTER he died.
If you think stats or footage play a big factor, then no way you think larry or bill were better than kobe. bill couldn't do shit offensively, and kobe has done everything better than larry. only thing larry has the upper hand on kobe are the mvp's. same w magic, only thing magic done better than kobe was playmaking. so explain, how are these 3 better than kobe?
bill has 11 rings cant really argue against that
magic is the best playmaker of all time, much bigger, and completly changed the game of basketball. he has more finals appearances, more championships, more finals mvps, more MVPs, more all-nba teams, and more first team all-nba’s. without the whole HIV situation hes in goat debate
LB was the original curry, he could shoot from anywhere. in todays NBA he would be unbeatable, pretty much jokic but way better. shame he got injured. Bird was also the only guy who could stop Mj and the bulls consistently
If we argue bill is better than kobe based off rings, surely hes better than bron/mj too?
Magic doesn't have more championships, finals appearances equals more losses, and w Bron that is the biggest argument everyone brings why he's not the goat, so why is that criteria for magic than against him? kobe has more nba first teams, so your argument is false, just again. Neither is he in goat debate without the HIV situation.
not even going to argue w bird, bc if you think he was better than kobe, you're just delulu
only reason bill isnt considered the goat is because most of us never saw him play
i apologize, for some reason when i wrote that i was thinking about curry cuz they usually get compared more. Magic made 9 finals in 12 seasons. Kobe has never reached that level of dominance. Magic finished in the top 3 for MVP voting for 9 straight season, including 3 MVPs. In his rookie year, magic won finals MVP against Dr. J and the 76ers. Magic was smarter, bigger and better at defense. If I could choose Kobe or Magic on my team, i'm taking Magic instantly
Give me one reason why kobe is better than any of these players
obv never saw magic play during his career, but from what i have heard and somewhat seen from clips magic was a much better perimeter defender. Personally growing up watching Kobe I never fought he was a great defender. I have heard he was better in the early 2000s, but everything I have seen suggests Magic was better
Bill Russell main strength was his defense by far, but saying he couldn't do shit offensively is a stretch. Larry was a much better rebounder and passer and was a much more efficient scorer than kobe. Kobe was a better defender (although larry was a great defender) while larry was the better overall offensive player. Kobe was the second guy behind shaq in 3 of his championships while bird was the main guy for most of them. Not to say kobe didn't play a big part, but there's a reason why bird has the same amount of finals mvps as kobe even though kobe has two more rings. Bird was more clutch than kobe and had 2 more mvps despite only playing 13 seasons. If you don't think bird and kobe are comparable you're crazy. Quite literally the only things kobe has over bird is longevity and defense.
With all due respect you've been spoon fed too many modern day narratives. Of course players will be more talented over time, that, for the most part, doesn't affect how great a player was in a previous era. The only thing I agree on is that the era where bill and wilt played was underdeveloped as the nba was new at the time. That's why they're not my goats even if they were relatively the "greatest" compared to their comp.
Also, funny how this is your argument when you were the one stating I don't watch ball.
IMO, he barely makes the top 10 and it's certainly close to me as I can easily see other players taking his spot. To me, he's not even a top 5 player to have ever put on the lakers jersey imo. Shaq, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, and Lebron (by the way, I'm talking about their careers as a whole and not just their stint as a laker). Kobe's really good, but a bit overrated.
