Icy Replacements

First of all, this isn't meant to shit on Icy, G2 has done well with him. However, it is a bit obvious G2 lacks the firepower and star fragger they need to take them to the next level, especially since the America's duelist scene is incredibly stacked. He does fit well in their system, but Saya and Tex also fit well in their system, and its not a big stretch to say that they can get another
,and for lack of a better word, better player to also fit their system.

  1. Jawgemo - The obvious pick. World Champion that can take over games and give them an X factor.
  2. N4rrate - An absolute stud who can frag out but also brings a lot of flexibility.
  3. Oxy - Its Oxy. This kid is the truth. Also, they can likely develop him as a player infinitely better than C9 has.
  4. Reduxx - Yes Mada has the better stats and all but I feel Reduxx is the better player. Also a better long-term investment.
  5. Victor - He looked good on duelist and brings a lot of experience. A safe pick.
  6. Mada - A bit rough around the edges, but undeniably has the fragging power G2 needs. Has been going nuclear in t2.
  7. Keiko - A risk, but the talent is there.

1 more -icy thread im gonna tweak

do we just hate developing rookies now

G2 look top tier even with current icy, and he plays gekko on icebox, allows great flexibility, and hes only getting better

and btw jawgemo is not an x factor does nobody here know what an x factor is

narrate too passive

oxy reduxx mada - good but why kick icy anyway

vic - prob eg or 100t

If jawgemo isn't an X factor then nobody is

lol what??? jawgemo is a great player who you know is gonna deliver EVERY MATCH because he is one of the best duelists around

thats not an x factor

x factor is someone who is pretty mediocre usually but occasionally has insane popoff games, so like trent and icy rn

'a special quality, especially one that is essential for success and is difficult to describe'

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/x-factor

Although to be fair, with Jawgemo it is pretty easy to describe. He plays like he's in constant clove ult and somehow pulls it off. Certainly special (who else plays quite like jawgemo does?) and leads to success for his team.

i always took x factor to mean more like an unknown quantity, like with icy you dont know if he'll have a popoff game but if he does then g2 will definitely win

Does Jawgemo even fit the playstyle of G2? He's incredibly explosive and his best performance were when he had someone like Demon1 to balance things out.

all i know is that oxy would NOT fit in the team. jawgemo is more confident than icy imo so

#9

jawgemo is literally just icy with more experience and confidence

why not just let icy develop into that player instead of kicking him

#11

i agree with you, i hope icy peaks at champs tbh, if he gains more experience and confidence and takes over their games a lot then they’ll do very well. might contrast their play style but whatever

Ah hell no, jawgemo is and has always been tiers above icy mechanically and it's not even close. Praise Icy, he's good, but that's wayyyyy too much

jaw is 5 years older

This is Jawgemos second year on tier 1 and I don't think you remember how insane he was on his first last year, it's not comparable at all

And it works the other way around, the younger the more mechanically talented in Valorant

#38

correlation is not causation

jawgemo is top 5 mechanically in the world

karon is 22 and is in his rookie year

#41

Exactly, so age doesn’t matter in this case which is my point when I say Icy has never been at Jawgemos level

#16

unfortunately with the seasons being too short, developing players has become an afterthought for most teams. If G2 don't perform well in Champs, and start off next season shaky, Icy will get dropped.

icy joined the roster in april and played through shanghai, he had some good games and some meh games and since then he’s been slowly improving. he’s no jawgemo or oxy but atp way too late to replace him when they’re playing at champs already

#36
reremus

well yea that's why I said next season. It's not like I want to see him get dropped. I'm just saying the culture in the league doesn't promote growing a rookie/player.

icy had a better raze than oxy and asuna
better jett than oxy
better neon than victor and mwzera

and it's some of his first season and he's genuinely only showing signs of improvement

I think he's fine.

Mid asf. He is just looking at his rating and noticed icy has a higher rating than mwzera and victor.

#23

Icy neon was mid asf, and he definitely does NOT have a better jett or raze than oxy. Stop looking at stats and watch the game.

#28

stats

you do realize oxy has went positive in multiple games more than icy has right?
unless this is about his neon

#30
Ballsamolee

Frags

What are you saying? I am disagreeing with him and saying that he got his information from here. Legit his basis for saying that icy has a better jett and raze than oxy is from his rating, and it is the same for his neon.

#32
Yuh_aye
0
Frags
+

yeah nobody in their right mind thinks Icy has a better raze and ESPECIALLY Jett than Oxy. This is why we watch the games and not just the stat page. I bet if you asked every pro in americas which player they'd rather have as the enemy Jett it would be unanimous.

#43
kaninv
0
Frags
+

I did watch and he played a jett and raze that wasn't flashy and actually won his team the game.

#44
Ballsamolee
0
Frags
+

Just because he was on the team that won a game doesn't mean that he is the sole reason why they won

#49
kaninv
0
Frags
+

not the sole reason, but he's part of their system and playing the role and doing it well. he's still fragging solid enough to have better stats than some other players that haven't been criticized while also doing the role he was meant to do and making space for his team and doing what they need him to do to win. I think that means he's playing a better duelist in my book.

#50
Ballsamolee
0
Frags
+

yeah he is doing his job well, and he is probably better for the team, but you can't just say that he is better than oxy. it's like saying victor was better on jett last year than aspas or demon1 and mwzera raze currently is better than aspas raze because the stats say so.

#52
kaninv
0
Frags
+

better stats + team is winning + working well in system = better duelist in my opinion
if it was just better stats, then sure
victor last year was not better on jett because his stats were not only worse but he wasn't working well in the system imho even if they were winning
because icy checks all 3 boxes I can say he is a better duelist imho, even if he isn't as flashy or doesn't have "raw aim" as good (which I also think is wrong if you look at his peaks)

#20

Reduxx is unironically the next Sayf and rival to aspas

the only valid replacements imo are Jawgemo, Victor, N4rrate, and saya

Couldn't agree more with your list. The only addition I would make is adding koalanoob. I think he's massively underrated and brings a degree of flexibility that I think G2 can work with.

oh my god ur right I can't believe I forgot about Koala (i haven't watched alot of t2 recently, forgive me). He's a great player and especially with ops and other scoped weapons. I'd probably put him above Keiko but idk whether to choose him over mada or vice versa

How well will methodical do against a team that's superior in gunplay as well as has good IGLing, like GENG and TH?

I look forward to see their performance this Champions, but my guess is that it will be a toss-up. Lots of overtime rounds where Karon or Benjy get 3 kills because leaf died early.

Honestly people have only been shitting on icy but I don't see anyone harping on Trent even when he's been playing at a similar level this entire split. Either way, G2 should 100 percent keep all their young talent, it's clear that both trent and icy have a lot of potential and replacing them now would just be a waste.

#51

trent was dubbed as one of the best initiators in the world back in early 2022 when the guard was the best na team for a short while, now he’s no longer hard carry like leo is which sucks to see but he’s a lot younger than leo and disciplined aswell

I think Trent still has it in him. He’s proven that he has the potential to be the best Initiator/Flex in Americas during 2022 and his incredibly dominant Ascension run.

His Fade and Gekko haven’t gotten enough reps since he was on Skye/Viper duty for most of 2023 and you can see it with some of his decision making. G2 lost key rounds because he was out of position or held onto utility that could have made the difference. I think part of it is tidying up his positioning so he doesn’t get caught out but then also setting him up to be their primary clutcher. I see him bait himself for his team way too often for how mechanically insane he actually is.
