Why is everyone saying clove is trans or non-binary? Valorant never confirmed and the only reason they used "they" pronouns in game was to conceal the agent's gender (I assume)

*they
all good though
edit: Crazy that I'm getting downvoted for respectfully correcting someone
I'm being pedantic, but it's probably not a good idea to use "it".
There's massively bad connotations when you use "it" to describe an animate object. Just use they/them.
i think they meant that they thought the pronouns were (it was) instead of using it/its pronouns (which are also just as valid just slightly less common and depends on the persons preferred pronouns c:)
ah yes wanting to be called they instead of she is predatory... get a life
they wouldn't have done it if it was their choice, its just pronouns are pushed onto everyone nowadays and it is irrelevant. Before pronouns were on social media its not like you couldn't survive.
oh my days r u stupid, im on about how people identify. Like even ten years ago not many people cared about pronouns so why does it matter now???
Why do people care about the gender of a video game character ? Your character being straight won't make you more accurate
Because people care about what their favorite game teaches you and other people.
fair enough but then again doesn't change shit to the gameplay therefore I don't give a shit
This is a cartoon game where you shoot people in the face and perform magic, what the fuck are you talking about
as a non native english speaker i really have no idea how you guys can understand each other calling someone THEY THEM???? its mean that there is 2 person living in 1 body? i really dont get this
They/them has been used as a singular and plural pronoun for a long long time
It's used when you don't know the gender of the person you're referring to, or in the case, they don't identify with a gender.
For example
"Do you know Alex" (Alex is a name for both men and women)
"No, I haven't heard of them"
portuguese is so different, i can't even explain to you how alien this sound to me
I understand, my family comes from Norway, so I learned Norwegian alongside English growing up and the idea of gender and pronouns is so different between the two languages.
I have my own issues with the whole pronoun discourse that happens online all the time, but the whole They/Them being exclusively plural issue particularly annoys me since it's just not how English works.
They/Them can be used to generally refer to a singular person. I do it often. Like if someone says
"Wow saadhak dropped 50 on sova!"
I reply with
"Yeah they did amazing"
It might also be worth noting that it functions in a very similar way as "you."
Both can refer to either a singular or a plural subject, but it depends on the context of the sentence.
no, its like we have genders words even for objects like a chair we use a male pronoum to refer to a chair i really cant translate this to english but everything in life even for words like "time, space" we use the same words we use to refer to man/woman.
same in my language
and it's really strange to use "them" as singular, especially since it's already has other meaning (plural 'you' means respect)
it's such an american thing, only kids in my school cried when they were getting called he a 'she' or she a 'he', no one ever cared about mispronouncing someone
post probably getting 404'd but
why is this being used as some weird marketing front? like why is it important?
To this day the best representation of the LGBT community I've seen is cyberpunk, you know why? because claire being trans is subtle and never pushed as her main character trait, they write her like any other character without focusing on her being trans wich is GREAT. and meanwhile here we have riot leakers coming out with this news ahead of anything else, just wow.
because having more representation in games means that people are more comfortable with themselves as it's seen as something normal, they may learn about the nonbinary identity and feel like its something that represents them, helps to make people more open minded especially kids who are coming into the game and learning about this stuff maybe for the first time
and anyone who says "it doesn't matter", well, cool you can just ignore it lol. its not going to affect how you play the game and if someone gets that pissy over a fictional character in a game being nonbinary then you can uninstall it
doesn't solve the issue with them using it as a marketing tool but whatever, I don't like it others may have no issues with it
different views I guess
i mean it really doesnt matter in the long run, ur just gonna refer to them as "clove" and just say where they are
no idea why people are so mad over representation in video games
where are the mad people.
Jesus chirst, my entire twitter feed is in influencers complaining about "community backlash" about the new agent but i swear to god i did not see a single negative comment\post except a joke about permaban for misgendering. That's it.
Like show me where is the hate. Yes people are anticipating another westjett post and there 100% are a some looney pepople, but there is no "community backlash". People are just imagining issues for farm while community is OVERWHELMENGLY accepting and encouraging.
Go to westjett Twitter he's getting thousands of likes complaining about this
considering that valorant has a MORE ACCEPTING COMMUNITY compared to others, its no wonder it has overwhelming support
westjett is a creator with an audience that parrots what he says, anything he says negatively about this his fans will take that run with it and I'm surprised you just haven't seen anything
they look like a great agent, gonna buy them immediately and try it out probably.
hopefully forums and socials stop crying they have to use they/them for an agent, it's not hard.
or just use the name "clove"
it's short and easy
