what country has the best music
I'm not a huge anime watcher, I have probably saw way more better US series than JP series (I think US series clears anime, even if they are both in good), and I can assure you that they are no way US music clear Japan (And they are no anime OST that I would rate high)
Edit : If you are taking the 20 lasts years, if you go before 2000 I agree US UK clears (I'm a fan of Kate Bush, or Jamiroquai afterall !)
While musical taste is inherently subjective and varies greatly across cultures, Taiwan undeniably stands out as one of the countries with the most vibrant and influential music scenes in Asia. Its rich blend of traditional elements and modern innovation has given rise to globally respected Mandopop artists, experimental genres, and a thriving independent music culture. From the poetic lyricism of ballads to the energy of contemporary pop and indie sounds, Taiwan consistently showcases an impressive depth of artistry that resonates both regionally and internationally.
From my experiences
African experimentals
Brazilian Bossa Novas
Japanese City Pop and Vaporvawe
German Psytrance
West Coast Hip Hop
Turkish Rock (Anatolia Rock)
Honestly you can find good metal music everywhere
Arabic Folk Music
Jazz is also a genre you can find anywhere but usually the best ones come from Japan)USA/Or Mediterranean countries
There are shit ton of stuff that ive probably missed but these are the stuff i can remember so hope its good for you
in basic terms, its traditional turkish music + rock
i dont really know what to compare it to but i can say the "rock" feeling of it is something between like progressive/psychedelic rock and folk rock
Barış Manço - https://youtu.be/jxi17F3z0Xw?si=iWMJStHE8Mu4dtk4
Cem Karaca - https://youtu.be/3QwkB28QuKk?si=eGfLR-Jvf3ffn59A
Erkin Koray - https://youtu.be/_u__X80_ePE?si=COIQXVKBj7s6PMXZ
these guys are like the founders of this genre still being listened and loved to this day. You can compare these guys to someone like Bob Dylan or Beatles with more Turkish elements and I think Barış Manço(prob the father of this genre) even to this day has a sizeable amount of a fanbase in Japan
Model - https://youtu.be/l1QLCTdMwK4?si=lhL5Up018uEHCXHM (music video had non song parts so i put this)
Mor ve Ötesi - https://youtu.be/A__hliu_9UE?si=au7kpY-a_02i76g2 (Eurovision song)
MaNga - https://youtu.be/HB_GnnhNz-8?si=2iXufLrC1YMbK7Hi (Another Eurovision song)
Şebnem Ferah - https://youtu.be/26rvrza_Gmg?si=IZNckUMtETwSHpnQ
Duman - https://youtu.be/6MecA5eYAqE?si=gf3FePHieIRmAyg_ (Prob the best one)
these guys/groups are the modern iteration of Anatolian Rock and possibly the biggest groups after popstars in Turkey but i dont really know what to compare these guys to i feel like theyre unique
Overall im not really good at describing the music but i can give you nice examples like Brazilian Bossa Nova or these links that have banger songs imo
Today the biggest songwriter in Japan is by far Zun (I dont know how he is doing but on Osu championship he always manage to have 5 of his music in the mapool without nobody notice it. Osu is probably the biggest metric to pick since it's basically a game for Japanese music fan), he made hit from 1998 to knoweadays and still makes bangers. He doesnt have a lot of instrument, and allow anyone to cover it (The cover are more known than the prime material), it allow many variations of his musical theme from metal to philharmonic orchestra, and i can assure you they are not too mush instrument
I think Japan will be really high, when we will study music in school music they are way more chance people will study Zun or Maretu or even Kikuo piano sheet, than Kayne or anything us rapper. What do you think music teacher will teach to their student, a dumb rapper song about girl gun and money, or the best Zun music played by the philharmonic orchestra of active neets ? If you have any westerners recent music played by philharmonic orchestra please send it under this comment I'd love to see them.
I think they are way mush under radar music that are know only by people of their country that way more chance to survive the time to the horrible industrial music comming from the US. In France some singer-songwriter are really talented and creative, other are not, and you haveway more chance to know the latter. I bet none of you know Stromae or Orelsan, but I don't see anyone in France say "Daft Punk clear thoose guys" (That you probably know), and I'm pretty sure it's the same for Spanish, they probably have a hundred of amazing talents way better than the guy that made Despacito.
We should make our own "Eurovision", our "vlrvision", everyone should post 3 music of the artist that are from their country/language that they believe that the best one, and we vote
japan, which im saying mainly because of niche music communities im in, also maybe Bulgaria but the electronic scene isnt very developed
