Due to this year's changes in the VCT format, the best teams from the singular Split of competition will qualify directly to Masters Tokyo and Champions. The top three teams from the Americas and Pacific Leagues will receive direct tickets to both events, while EMEA will function differently.
EMEA will take four teams to Tokyo, due to FNATIC FNATIC Europe Rank #2 Sayonara Ștefan Mîtcu stand-in Boaster Jake Howlett kaajak Kajetan Haremski Chronicle Timofey Khromov Alfajer Emir Ali Beder 's LOCK//IN win, but will not qualify those teams directly to Champions. Instead, the three best-placed EMEA rosters in Tokyo will go to Champions. The fourth roster will drop down to the Last Chance Qualifiers, which will all be played amongst a league's seven best squads.
All told, each VCT League and China will receive three slots for Champions. Each League will also qualify one team from its LCQs. To bring the number of Champions teams up to 16, whichever region wins Masters will have its LCQ slots expanded and will instead fly two teams to Champions.
The three Chinese teams will be drafted from a 12-team qualifier. The teams will be selected based on their performance in domestic competitions, the Chinese esports account has revealed. Alan Gai, a Chinese caster, has also suggested the event could be the first LAN event in the country.
The 2023 VCT Leagues are still midway through their regular seasons, whose playoffs should conclude in late May. Masters Tokyo will be played from June 11 to 25, and LCQs teams will have until mid-July to prepare. The Chinese Champions qualifiers and LCQ will take up most of July, while Champions will be played between August 6 and 26 in Los Angeles.
