Why VCT is Trash Now

No storylines, rivalries, or a face of the league. Last good year was 2023 when Demon1 and Boostio gave 0 fucks. Now it's stale because riot and the community are soft as fuck and get offended by competitiveness and trash talk.

Should riot start scripting games to manufacture narratives? Thoughts?

they didn't properly switch to their new player and comps until after they'd already lost to the 3 good teams in their group? It all looks good, it's just probably too late. They should look promising going into stage 2 (if D4v41 shows up and Something learns to play Yoru) but so does all of pacific besides DFM and GE.

Why wouldn't they play double duelist on the maps where his Pheonix and Raze work? That's just sensible, especially after T1 winning Bangkok with it. Notably though, he now has Omen and Brim in his pool so they can play Ascent, Haven and Fracture with him on smokes, and switching their smokes player for an initator - solving their comp issues.

Jingg now plays: Pheonix on Pearl. Raze on Lotus and Split. Brim on Fracture. Omen on Ascent and Haven. And Tejo on Icebox.

Since f0rsaken can flex Omen on the Raze maps they need and D4v41 can play Astra on Pearl, that's all Jingg needs to cover.

The only problem now is Something, cuz he still can't comfortably play anything but Jett and Breach. If he could get his Yoru down they'd have 0 comp issues anymore, cuz even if their comps are slightly unconventional in places, they make sense and fit their playstyles, which is what actually matters in the current meta.

people care about BOOM and the players that were signed to bleed pre-explosion. MIBR now too as a result, and the Verno NRG stuff by extension.

And EMEA is cooking with comps a bit more so their reduced narratives isn't really an issue.

You're right about the Verno situation, but no one gives a damn about pacific. And not for the reasons you think. No one in the west can even watch their games because of timezones. And none of their teams have marketable stars, at least not to the extent of a TenZ for example.

Americas is one region and not even the entire "west". Plenty of EMEA and a lot of CN show interest in Pacific games. Hell, even some of Brazil shows interest waking up first thing in the morning. And that's ignoring people catching up with the vods.

And their teams literally do have marketable stars, they're just more popular in their own regions than abroad. They probably think exactly the same of Americas back. It's a matter of perspective.

the type of fanbase you are referring to is a strict minority. most vct fans only watch games from within their region, and a lot of fans probably only watch games from their favorite team.

and if there are marketable stars in other regions then there should be a push for them to become the face of valorant and not be region locked. soon you're going to lose touch with the casual fans and prevent non-esports fans from even becoming interested in the scene.

If you watch most eastern teams you would know this take is mid. Boom literally went from being called the worst team in their region to being 5-0 in a group with GenG PRX and DRX. RRQ went from being a mid tier team gate kept by GenG to being first seed in their group after picking up crazyguy. WOL and BLG have had a good rivalry with nephh and Juicy as well as how many times the teams have played each other in the last year. even Americas has the Verno storyline, C9 looking the best they ever have, and MIBR, SEN, 100T, KRU all having rivalries with eachother.

emea is still pretty good tbf. the french orgs look way better this year and their games are always hype.
