It's Riot fault at the end of the day. DSG won't be the only org leaving the scene in SEA with how fucking stupid those exclusive streaming rights are, no watchparties outside of SOOP, there are less than 500 people watching the official english broadcasts on their website. For orgs that rely on content, co-streams and general viewership it's a no-brainer decision to do, it's late but what are they supposed to else to do? This SOOP partnership that made the regions merge in APAC and binded the scene to a dogshit platform where nobody is watching games is just accelerating the death of Tier2 immensely.
according to toast it was a misunderstanding about the SOOP stream exclusivity. He admitted it was DSG's fault. He thought that the SOOP exclusivity was just gonna be for split 3 and that he was gonna be able stream the games until then, but they realized literally yesterday that no costreams are gonna happen at all for the earlier splits either and they tried to communicate with riot but it wasnt gonna happen and then they decided that it;s gonna be extremely difficult to finance the valo team due to this. they will be supposedly helping the team during the transition. So yeah the org fucked up their understanding of the SOOP stuff but without SOOP it also wouldnt have happened and they would have ran it back with the team.
thought the order was:
Riot already had plans to merge the regions since the sub-regions of SEA weren't making enough to sustain themselves and to increase competitivity of the region -> SOOP pays a lot to get streaming rights -> Riot accepts the deal -> shit lets loose.
Don't think a streaming platform has enough power to merge a region with riot.
