Why is the Valorant community so soft?

Yes, I made this account 5 minutes ago just to share my take.

I have been gaming for over a decade and Valorant is the first gaming community I have been involved with so much outrage against anything that isn't sunshine and rainbows. Every week it feels like there is new drama because half the community got offended at something of no significance.

As someone who actually likes to be involved in the community of the games I play, this shit gets exhausting. You know the type of friends who can never take a joke that isn't 100% politically correct? That shit is annoying right? Well, that is what it feels like to be a part of this community sometimes.

I'll take Bren's advice and be one of those people who is just going to find a different game/community where people aren't so fragile.

Edit: Logged out and gone now. Just wanted to leave a post for anyone who could relate to being tired of this community.

Yeah but it's not just VLR, it's the community overall.

I think that Valorant has unfortunately attracted the particular crowd of people who are sheltered and sensitive over everything. I felt this when I started playing 2 years ago but thought I'd stick it out but I'm over it at this point. I barely played the game anymore recently but the outrage over that tweet + a prime representative of the game (Bren) calling the tweet a lobotomized post and banning people who disagree with him basically sealed the deal.

For some reason, I feel like most other popular games aren't as bad as Valorant's community which is truly unfortunate because I do enjoy the game. It's just that Val's community has a bunch of snowflakes.

To be fair, most of the time it happens it's like 3-4 people that post on every thread and get downvoted each time. Most people don't seem to think that way.

a lot of the “controversy” or whatever that shows up in this community is brainrot and stupid to argue about

but i truly do not think that being upset with an ORG/COMPANY making a joke about suicide is a snowflake thing to do, different people have different limits and suicide especially is a topic that will fluctuate person to person

but i truly do not think that being upset with an ORG/COMPANY making a joke about suicide is a snowflake thing to do, different people have different limits and suicide especially is a topic that will fluctuate person to person

But this is exactly what I mean. The escalation of a pretty harmless emoji post to, "this org is being incredibly unprofessional and promoting suicide when suicide is something people deal with on a day to day basis etc..." and people even bringing up past suicides like Twisten just to make the G2 post look a lot worse than it is.

Like, man, this stuff just looks so ridiculous.

i’m not agreeing with you, i genuinely think its fair for people to bring up twisten in this example, it’s a company in this esports scene where a player killed himself last year and the company should be more conscious of what they put out

if people want esports to get to a point where its mainstream the companies running the teams/rosters should be professional, regardless of whether or not you thought it was funny

personally i really don’t care about this tweet but i don’t blame people for getting annoyed, again suicide is a thing that affects everyone differently

what exactly is your point

i agree with this. the community is def too soft especially when talking about trash talk and what not, but i think that suicide jokes are something that should be avoided by orgs/companies/other big accounts. I mean i've dealt with a lot of depression/suicidal thoughts in my life and while I don't find jokes about that stuff offensive or anything I definitely see how it could be hurtful to some.

at the end of the day anybody could be reading a public twitter account so its always good to keep em pretty clean. keep the more offensive/edgy jokes to in person convos with friends that you know are fine hearing them

#22

yup the trash talk stuff is always hilarious to me cause who the fuck cares every other sport does it, and if its over the line, the league punishes them

controversial jokes really shouldn’t be made in the scene when every org and riot are praying for it to become mainstream to secure some cash flow

Also I always find the snowflake argument so funny because you're usually getting offended about the same level as the person you're calling a snowflake. You're just getting annoyed at someone else who is annoyed at someone else, and I find that funny.

That second thing you said about the snowflake thing is not quite true. Annoyance and offence are two different things. However, it is weird that people will put more energy and time into a joke tweet like this instead of doing something actually useful that can help the cause they are trying to work towards.

#25

Yeah yeah I agree. I was just simplifying and wanted to use a different word than just saying offended again because my brain didn't want to keep reusing words lol.
You also don't know if they aren't doing anything useful to help the problem, you're just kind of assuming. Obviously some people will because it's easier than actually doing something, this goes for literally any topic or issue. In the topic of suicide, awareness is one of the more important aspects of helping people, so I'd argue they are actually doing something positive by pointing out how potentially harmful the tweet is

you guys are braindead, we had a player just a year ago kill himself because of the constant toxicity of the internet and none of you dipshits care at all. I know none of you guys have ever actually been suicidal before but jokes like this genuinely push people who are already suicidal closer to suicide.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with making jokes like this in private but orgs posting this to their massive young audience is so destructive

#12
sheriffykw
2
Frags
+

exactly

joking about suicide is like making cancer jokes, it’s fine in private but if you say it to the wrong person you can’t get upset that they got offended if they’ve been affected in the past

#17

Going on an anti-suicide promotion campaign over a harmless emoji tweet is soft. If you can't see that, you're just one of them. And you know what? You do that. Like I said, this shit happening every week is annoying to anybody who isn't this sensitive and that's why I'm moving on.

P.S. You can have dealt with suicide and not be sensitive to topics about suicide. I don't know where this conclusion came from that having experienced something = being unable to enjoy anything unless you're constantly sheltered from bad words and pictures.

Way to drastically miss the point bud. Who fucking cares if its "soft" thats a silly subjective label that can be applied to literally anything, it hurts people, it has negative impact on some people. I know this is crazy but maybe we should just try to be good people and not hurt others. I fucking love edgy humor, I call myself slurs all the time but only among people I know and slurs im allowed to say, there is a time and a place for that and if you cant control whether you are saying something that will hurt other people that doesn't make them soft it makes you a dick. Its YOUR fault when you hurt someone, maybe take some fucking responsibility for your actions instead of blaming others(this is a generalized statement and not aimed at you in particular I know you didnt make the joke.)

I know that not everyone who has dealt with mentall health issues is sensitive to suicide, I have dealt with a lot of mental health issues and I wasnt bothered by the G2 post personally but just because some of us are ok with it doesnt mean all of us are.

Look in the end I think we as a community should do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING in our power to prevent what happened to Twisten to happen to anyone else ever again. If catering to people who are 'soft' is a part of that so what?

The games Riot makes are catered towards one side and the community it attracts are usually the ones that get offended quickly

I think the tweet was a bit unwarranted but the response on both sides is way out of proportion, imo appropriate response is to just delete the tweet and we all move on with our lives. You can deny this all you want; but every time something like this happens it literally becomes a pseudo political debate which should defo be distanced from.
