geng can no longer claim to be the best team of 2024 since SEN fucked them twice in important matches
just like fnatic wasnt the best team of 2023 since LOUD had them on a dog leash in important matches
What is the criteria for team of the year? Because Fnatic and GenG have been the most consistent in their years (2023 and 2024 respectively).
Would EG be in contention for 2023 TOTY since they won Champions? Are we talking firepower like NRG? Or fan favorite like Sentinels and Paper Rex?
I have to disagree with your argument because I value the consistency of these two teams. Both teams have made every tournament, placed 1st and 2nd in their leagues, and placed high in each tournament (GenG champions being the exception).
Edit: Imagine someone like Lebron or MJ not be in contention for player of the year because they lost against 1 team.
its hard to measure consistency.. if a team struggles against a particular team then its hard to call them the best team of the year.. simply because who plays who is a coin toss.. some teams can make deep runs just because they played weak teams and then lose out to specific teams. Fnatic repeatedly losing to LOUD in champs shows they were not the best. EG is the best choice for 2023 and who is the best in 2024 is still undecided
By your logic eg can’t be called the best team then as they lost to loud twice and they never beat fnatic. They played fnatic twice and lost both times 5-1 in maps to fnatic so by your own logic eg can’t be called the best.
Until champs playoffs fnatic had lost only 8 maps and lost only 1 series up until they played loud at champs that’s consistency plus on the all the maps they played that year they had a positive record eg didn’t come close to fnatic that year
Is EG the best choice just because they won champions? Or are you defining consistency with EG?
Measuring consistency (to me) is how likely I am of making the right predictions with that team. Luck is everywhere in both the game and pro scene. From random headshot through smokes and timings, to whoever is sleeping in and bracket draws, but top tier teams will minimize or exploit each part of the game's RNG, leading to consistent performances. There was the 2016 NBA Finals, where the Warriors were the favorites and lost a 3-1 lead to the Cavaliers, does that discredit what they did the whole year?
Hearing about EG's story and how they NEEDED MIBR (who were one of the lowest performing teams in that league), I wouldn't have thought that they were going to make it to champs in the first place. They have never beaten FNC, earning second place in Tokyo, and are tied with FNC in terms of series against LOUD (both 2-1).
Consistency is how top tier teams beat other top tier teams. There is a one in a million chance that a team like EG loses to a random team that gets 40 running headshot kills through a smoke, and make all the right reads, but that shouldn't discredit what they do would work the other 99% of the time.
