According to Riot, Keyd Stars' Jonathan "JhoW" Glória used an illegal Cypher cam while defending A site on six different rounds.
"The location of the camera allows the Cypher player to see through the back of a small map texture that is intended to block the player's view," Riot said in its explanation of the exploit. "From an opposing perspective on the opposite side of the map texture, the texture is solid and blocks the Cypher camera from view."
Riot said it did not stop the match because the exploit "was not immediately obvious when watching the player move the camera during the match" since the one-way view is only a small part of the camera's perspective. Additionally, Acend did not report the exploit and Keyd Stars did not contact tournament officials to determine if the camera was legal.
Any round in which the camera was used was forfeited by Keyd Stars, including rounds in which Acend did not go A. Riot said this is because the camera still provided critical knowledge in determining Acend was not going to the A site.
The forfeited rounds were Rounds 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, and 20. Acend won two of those rounds within the game itself. As a result, Riot flipped the score from 13-8 in Keyd Stars' favor to 12-9 in Acend's favor.
Riot gave Acend an additional round win, thus giving them the map win and the match win, "to account for the economic impact of the six (6) forfeited rounds on the subsequent rounds in the map."
As a result, the match has flipped from a 2-1 victory for Keyd Stars to a 2-1 victory for Acend. Acend now plays Envy Envy Inactive Marved Jimmy Nguyen Victor Victor Wong crashies Austin Roberts FiNESSE Pujan Mehta yay Jaccob Whiteaker in their group's winner's match tomorrow.
"Decision has already been made and it is indisputable guys," JhoW said after Riot made the ruling. "I apologize for the mistake, it really wasn't the intention and we would win the series even without the camera, but rules are rules and our plan to win every match hasn't changed yet. Let's give it our all, one game at a time!"
