Yeah, and according to Noyn post this is something that actually happening in BR scene. Big orgs like MIBR, Godsent, NIP, Loud are creating Valorant rosters in their regions and others big orgs like Dignitas, Team one, Imperial and Pain Gaming are rumored to be interested as well. If thats true, the level of investment of BR scene will skyrocket
I think the reason they chose not to increase the prize pool, is because it invalidates other tournaments. While this also does that, to a lesser extent, it doesn't make Champions the most important tournament for fans, like the TI is for Dota fans.
It does make it the most important event for teams, however.
In addition, the equally shared earnings are much better for teams who come from regions where it's difficult to improve. It disproportionately incentives investment in the regions with the best existing infrastructure, as they should theoretically have the highest chance of making it far, whereas the method RIOT is implementing currently is much better for those in regions without this infrastructure.
I agree to a certain extent, but still it can harm in other aspects. The teams will be motivated to get there, but not to win. The weaker regions will simply be satisfied with getting there, if they are already the top dogs in their region they won't feel the need to improve, this mentality will be contagious we will get to a point where competing on masters and chanllengers will be more important than competing in champions itself.
Your points have a lot of merit, those are definitely major consequences that could occur.
Maybe, the winner could get a separate, individual skin line where 50% of the profits go only to them. I'm not really sure about the time needed to make a skin, but with the ~ two-month "off-season" after champs, it may be possible to get it out in time before the next Masters event.
A distribution could work too, so long as it isn't connected to the prize pool - that's what messed things up for other tournaments in Dota 2, and more recently Fortnite. I'm not sure how exactly this would work, but with some clever wording and marketing, it should be possible to pull it off.
I'm just against the prize-pool approach, it has too many downsides.
Why is that a bad thing? There is one major tournament at the end of the year that you vie for. There are discrepancies in payout for winning, but it keeps all orgs competitive in nature knowing that just simply having the top team is going to afford you opportunities.
This creates incentives to actually keep valorant as an esport competitive instead of hearing how pros like pati consider OW or pros go back to CSGO.
For some regions that also have a hard time attracting talent this is another bonus.
Im sorry, but all I see are W's by doing this.
this is a huge incentive for orgs to get into valorant and make solid rosters. getting a minimum 470,000 usd guaranteed if you make champs it will bring more sponsors and orgs to the game. also we have seen what "smaller region" teams can do knocking out championship contenders in groups, its never as easy as you think to get into champs.
there is prize money then there is the skin money which is given to all equally. the one who gets the most is in the first place, then 2nd, then 3rd/4th, then so on. the skin money will be divided equally but the prize pool will still be divided proportionally. no team gets more money than the winning team.
and no one cares about anything but TI. the scene is good as dead other than the end of the year big money event paid for by the fans. both fortnite and dota has fallen to this pitfall of giving massive amounts to their champions which ended up killing the pro scene for everything else that doesnt have millions attached to it. no one would care who won masters 1,2 and 3 if champs just had 2 mil for the winner, killing the scene. this is the right way to do things as far as ive seen.
Thats the last boost for orgs in NA / EU / KR / BR / LATAM and other regions to invest in valorant next 2022 (Even if no regular league or franchised like League of Legends LEC / LCS / LCK)
To put numbers in context, there is still a week of this bundle and the prizes for each participant will be:
1st $818,750
2nd $618,750
3-4th $558,750
5th-8th $508,750
9th-16th $488,750
The last CSGO Major prize pool was:
1st $1,000,000
2nd $300,000
3rd-4th $140,000
5th-8th $70,000
9th-16th $17,500
CS has stickers, which fans can purchase to support specific teams.
I think the single bundle is better since it greatly supports those who need it most. That and, it means designers can put all their effort into a single amazing bundle yearly rather than 16 different skins, which would likely be less detailed.
yes and they earn well over $ 24M from stickers sales.

Bruh, they went to the champions
They went their by competing, winning and gaining circuit points
Who are we to put a moral compass and be like, oh they didn't scrim enough, they don't deserve it?
They fought for their spot, and you don't want them to reap thier benefits because you think they didn't practice enough or they stream more
Think about it
They are following the same strategy Riot do in LoL, the best and more important tournament of the year >>> all
The prize of get a spot in the tournament is the best prize of the year, winning the tournament means your are the best team of the year.
It sucks for teams like Sentinels or Envy who put great performances in Masters 2 and Masters 3, but i think is the best for reassess the great tournament
I understand because of their performance, but champions is a culmination of an entire year worth of getting circuit points just to qualify so it is justifiable. If they didn't perform well throughout the year they wouldn't even qualify but very unlucky for them to suck at the tournament that really mattered.
NV totally deserves lmao, These guys were underdogs in M3 Berlin and still managed to pull off, coming in second. They qualified into champs because of their amazing run. Even if they fell short in Champs, that doesn't mean they're shit. Every single team in champs deserves, you can see that from the amount of upsets and comebacks in this tournament. Every region is improving and this will give more incentive to make the competition much fiercer.
