Honestly like, both teams are looking really good and I just wanna hear some thoughts about the upcoming match of SEN and G2
Yea because lev is unable to play, you dont get to see the level of adaptation of a team when said team dont even get challenged, much less the issues that might arise once they go against top tier teams.
It was the same with FNC in 2023 where the whole year they had 0 challenge going through everyone until the one team that had just as much talent as them finally faced them again and by champs Loud had already had a ton of anti for FNCs strats. Before that game everyone was saying FNC were by far the most powerful team in VCT history (which even as a FNC fan I think was a ridiculous claim)
I think itll either be a banger or an absolute shit show (if SEN perform like a bunch of tier 2 players like they have so many times before).
Man I love this team but it hurts so much everytime they shoot themselves in the foot round after round. I genuinely think theyre gonna have the same problem again this year due to an abundance of callers. With the loss of Tenz and replacing him with a more vocal player its gone from 4 vocal players to 5 and I think it might just fuck up their chemistry when everything isnt clicking.
I do think this should be the top 2 of the region throughout the season tho, G2 will be more dominant in regionals, SEN in internationals
MIBR isnt even close to challenging SEN, either way tho its G2 SEN qualifying and frankly i dont think G2 are all that capable if leaf gets shut down and considering leaf is senti/anchor controller SEN can easily deal with him as theyve done for many other problem players (at least when theyre on the attacking side)
I mean hes right though, its not like G2 have been tested, nor have we seen them in the off season to claim that theyre oh so perfect. They play "correct" valorant and it just looks really pretty so people tend to overrate them, i mean look at how much of a disappointment last year was for them, 1 for 1 replacements typically dont improve teams as much as it does on paper when were talking about valorant.
G2 have many holes and their playstyle is the kind of style John calls perfectly against, its really readable and predictable which is a huge asset for Johns calling style. Not to mention G2 relies a ton on individual heroics and against a team like SEN it wont be so easy to come away with a game just with that
Last year was a disappointment? picking up Leaf, losing Tex before the season, First year out of ascension having to pick up a new duelist start of the year after kickoff and then getting 3rd at Shanghai, 7th - 8th was a bit of a under performance at Champs but was 2nd in both Stage 1 and 2 of America's. Last year was a incredible year for them. I agree SEN will be the true test for them. Also G2 beat SEN TWICE last year with JohnQt as the IGL, arguably the better SEN team then they have now, and a worse G2.
Edit. If you consider that a disappointment, I don't know what a good season for team looks like, yeah they weren't world beaters and didn't get a trophy but to be coming up into the league with 2 new players seems like quite the accomplishment.
Ive been following TG and was a fan since before they qualified through challengers, the expectations for the team the moment they got picekd up by G2 was that theyd be top 5 teams in the americas, they werent. Both times they beat SEN were in matches that didnt matter in the slightest and SEN were playing a noticeable amount worse than they were in the previous matches.
Yes they were a disappointment as someone who expected them to live up to their players and their reputations
It seems to me like youre a new fan because youre treating them as if they were ever an "ascension" team when theyve always had tier 1 expectations placed on them and just never lived up to them when it really mattered. I dont count a high regionals placement anything special when every team below the top 3 SUCKED
I've been following the Guard since it was the OG roster with Net and Sayaplayer, I am not a new fan.

I think your expectations were just insanely higher then anyone elses. They did fumble at Champs, I feel a 5 top finish was kind of expected by them and they didn't deliver, I'm just saying the year as a whole was a good year for any org in the league, I think Icy fit really well into the system, especially for not being on the original planned roster for the year, I like him a lot but he definitely didn't have the firepower and individual playmaking that would make G2 a great team last year.

also they definitely were top 3 in America's last year, only SEN and LEV had a better year then G2. not taking into consideration any of the regular season and placement in regional leagues is also dumb. I think most people were surprised at how well they did last year, at the beginning of the year I don't think many people saw G2 as a team that was going to compete or get top 3 at a international event.
I think with getting a full VCT season under their belt (Playing teams in tier 2 is not the same as Tier 1), getting more international tournament experience and picking up Jawg they definitely have super high expectations this year I feel like if they don't make it to at least 1 international final it's a bust.
Youre completely ignoring their absolute fumble when they first joined the league. They couldnt even make it to the playoffs of the initial kickoffs and honestly i dont think there was much of an excuse for them considering the opponents they went up against.
I think if you measure it from the bounceback AFTER they had dropped net then overall it was a pretty good year but the year as a whole definitely was a disappointment in my eyes, you need to remember they dropped out of Shanghai due to the same thing as their last lan, inconsistency and not performing when it really mattered. It could be argued to be the same with champs and hell even the kickoffs where they had a terrible scoreline against MIBR and SEN
They ENDED top 5, my statement right there was the team right out of ascension shouldve EASILY been top 5 but they fumbled so hard. They LOST to MIBR of all teams and the only map they won against them was a 15-13
I think it was great that they got to where they did in shanghai but imo the competition wasnt even that strong that it was too impressive. Going into shanghai I think 3rd was pretty expected, maybe 5-6th if you werent that high on these players individually. In champs I feel like it was more understandable because they lost to great teams, it was just an absolute crumble the fashion in which they lost
Because they’re playing against mid teams. C9 needs oxy to pop off or have xeppa have a life game to be a threat. Neither of which happened against g2. And Lev doesn’t have an actual duelist and what should be their best player his bottom fragging. And as good as leaf has been played mada had been far and away the best player in Americas dgzin aswell tbh.

I think SEN will be looking for revenge after last year, where they lost every match against G2. G2 is even stronger now than they were before. However, no team is guaranteed to win the tournament—it's always the team that keeps improving match after match that comes out on top. If G2 lets their ego get in the way, I believe they will lose—if not in this game, then perhaps in the grand final, where they might finally get what they deserve.
