I'm just talking about performance vs other teams during their year! Just because FNC 23 is above OpTic 22 doesn't mean they'd necessarily beat OpTic 22 or vice versa.

FNC 2023
Honestly, this is debatable I can't lie. But FNC are the first and only team to win back to back trophies looking dominant when they won Tokyo. They had a respectable top 4 finish at Champs as well.
OpTic 2022
Top 3 every international event in 2022, 1 Masters trophy, and 2nd at Champs? Pretty no brainer that this is the 2nd best team of all time.
EG 2023
Two GF in a row, 1 Champions trophy? I feel like the way they played was so good that they deserve to be called the 3rd best team of all time. Their performance during LOCK//IN is why they're below OpTic imo.
LOUD 2022
2x GF, grouped at Copenhagen, but walked away with a Champs Trophy? They looked very strong and innovative, especially with how they won Champs without benefiting from the Chamber meta.
GEN.G 2024
GF appearances in every tournament bar one for the entire year. Out of 6 possible Grand Finals they made 5. That's insane consistency. A Masters trophy to boot, on enemy ground as well? I think they're debatably more recent enough to be considered above LOUD 2022 tbh, but this is a close one.

Loud over EG because how tf were they not in playoffs by default despite destroying Brazil they gave it to latam instead even though (at least on vlr) it was a latam/be slot so they should have been able to play for it

i mean kru won vs them in groups and lev was better than kru at the time. so it was probably fair to have lev in playoffs. The stupid thing was that Loud and Optic both got in the same group when they were the finalist from the last masters

i think BR were in playoffs Masters 1 but didn't get playoffs M2 because ~~Lev~~ KRU won the BR/LATAM qualifier

I believe it was because LATAM #2 KRU beat BR #2 NiP during the qualifier, which, according to Riot rationale, meant that LATAM as a region was more competitive than BR, so LATAM got the playoff bye.

Yeah I get it. To be fair though I mean you can make a big case for GEN.G then for example, they were drawn with the most ridiculous group of death ever. Every finalist of the year was in their group + the team that came very close to beating TH and GEN.G

I feel like although KRÜ were the BR killers at the time LOUD should have been able to win vs them.

True but I'd argue geng's case is different since they weren't literally robbed of a playoffs spot since this was champs but they also aren't better than 2022 loud/optic and 2023 fnc/eg

Their single tournament performance was the best in history but I don't think their year was. 1st, then 5th-6th, then grouped.
Plus, this was the first year of international VCT.

It makes no difference if you come 5th, 2nd, or 12th. The trophy only goes to the winner.

and Fnatic is the only team that has won more trophies in a single year than SEN

Yes it does because we're taking into account the best team of the year lol. Consistently high placements means something. It's not best team of the tournament or peak best team or whatever.

Being able to perform consistently well during the length of the season is a valid and valuable metric.

Consistency means nothing. Only the trophies matter. No matter how many times a team finishes 2nd, 3rd, or 5th, those placements will never turn into a trophy.

By your logic Heretics should be above Loud and EG because they were more consistent🤡

I agree with the teams you picked for this top 5. However I argue this in terms of placements:

OpTic 2022. didn't win Champs but the team they lost to are literally number 3 on this list.
FNC 2023. Not much else to be said there
LOUD 2022. Same thing you said. I put them above EG because apart from Copenhagen they were very consistent all year with OpTic being the only "true" rival.
GEN.G 2024, for exactly the same thing you said.
EG 2023. Their end of the season was insane, but many forget that the start of their season was pretty putrid and they almost didn't even qualify. Easily the flukiest team on the list, though they deserve their accolades given what they achieved in the end.

HM for SEN 2021. Though I argue that was an entirely different era and is much more debatable to put in Top 5. Top 10 for sure.

SEN 2021 was pretty good, won Masters without dropping a single map, also won every regional event
TH 2024 didn’t win anything but did good at all 3 events and made 2 GF, especially being a dark horse
Gambit 2021 won Masters and made GF, one of the strongest teams ever
