ive seen a lot of tweets abt it today
i think its initiator cause the timings of initiator util are the most important and i think its best if the guy behind the strat is using that util. all other utility has less room for error and is to an extent simpler and i think i want my igl on initiator before anything else
what do you guys think?
Sentinel, a lot of the time your util is working by itself and doesn't require as much attention as a initator, duelist or controller. You can focus a lot more on mini-map and managing your team.
The problem with sentinel is that you’re also lurking, so you don’t have the full picture of what is happening with the test of the team.
Senti/Viper you can micro manage a bit more on those roles without the pack and gives you more time to focus on minimap when lurking etc.
yes of course, i mean if your defaulting FNS usually just gains info from his other players most great IGL's go into a round with a gameplan and have lets say another player helping them with the midround like Zellsis to JohnQT.
The best igls tend to flex around their teammates
Take Saadhak always flexing between flash/scan initators/smokes/sentinel and even duelist
Or FNS in Optic playing Viper/Senti/Flash/Scan Initator
Even Boostio flexed between Sentinel/Smokes/Initator
Take Kingg switching from Duelist to Flex to Smokes
IMO its on how well the igl flexes around his team rather than the role the igl plays because igl isnt meant to frag out, they have to activate their players, when igls force their players into worse roles for themselves their team gets worse as a result

Haodong switching to flex forcing Smoggy to smokes
Redgar switching to smokes forcing all of Ginatx to change

but imo its still between controller and senti
with controllers you can determine the pace of the game, as everything relies on smokes
You can decide when to execute based on the timing of your smokes
or you can call strats based of your smokes (smoking mid or other areas)
you can also lurk very well while playing smokes
same with senti its just you can make calls off info from util and that enables it to be much easier
Senti and controller make sense but it’s way easier to coordinate what a smoker smokes than what an initiator initiates. An igl can kinda just tell the smoker to smoke and it works
Initiator. Whether it be recon/flash initiator, getting information is key for decision making. Having the IGL being the info gatherer allows it to coordinate teammate better.
I’d say flex. Only reason is you just can’t on IGL, Senti doesn’t work cause your lurking and don’t fully know what’s happening with your team so it’s hard to then. Initiator your setting up your duelist and calling is just hard and smokes works fine but isn’t as good as being apart of the main pack but not focused on 1 specific thing so you can call.
i like initiator as well, i think it depends on the map tho. for ascent, FOR SURE initiator because of the defaulting on that map with the double init util reset meta. this is even rpoven by that one time victor started playing kj and FNS moved to kayo that one time
I think initiator works better as a main igl because you pretty much have to play alongside your teammates in a site execute, though it would help having a sentinel/controller as a second caller to get info on the rest of the map
senti if your team lacks braincells
controller if your playing double controller
inittiator if your team overheats a lot or double duelist

I made the original X post. I think Anderzz's quote rt effectively explains and summarizes why controller is best,
"The one who controls the smokes, controls the pace. Your team isn't execing before your smokes go down; they're the prerequisite and trigger. Your team isn't clearing mid/intermediate spaces without smokes for one of the adjoining corridors; they're the prerequisite and trigger. By putting IGL's in the position to control smokes, you're putting them in a position to control the game."
The data I gathered also shows that controller led teams tend to do better this year, and 8 out of 13 of them qualified to Champs. Compare that to 7 out of 25 Initiator led teams.
