TRY NOT TO FIND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT CHALLENGE

LEVEL: IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!

like holy fuck madrid was fun and so was shanghai. i would say that the gf was a bit underwhelming because of how one sided the maps were, but it definitely had it's moments. Pacific got their first trophy and it wasn't from prx or drx, the two teams that have always placed well. G2, an ascension team, whom almost everyone(myself included) doubted, were able to get 3rd. Team Heretics, a team that had to get a sub, was able to go all the way to the grand final and wo0t put up an insane performance throughout the tournament(although the grand final wasn't his best performance). 100T went from being memed on and hated on to establishing themselves as a top contender.
GEN.G has the best storyline imo.

  • t3xture went from being on one of the WORST teams last year and being shit to being one of the best players(imo).
  • Munchkin went from being in the depths of the t2 japanese scene to leading his team to a win.
  • Lakia went from being one of the best players at the beginning of valorant to the t2 scene, and was called up and he came through.
  • Solo, like Lakia, went from being one of the best at the first international event as a PLAYER to being the head coach of this team
  • Meteor went from being an overheating duelist to one of the greatest sentinels(again, imo).
  • Karon was a literal ranked player. he was a pubg player(i think) and geng found him in a ranked match. that's insane.
  • For me personally hsk has had the best redemption arc ever. Dude went from being the coach of DFM last year, the worst team ever hands down, to helping this team get the win.

Although the chinese teams didn't do that well, I would like to shoutout FPX for exceeding many peoples expectations and I can't wait for this team to be at champs.

All in all, no tournament is ever "bad" because there are always highlight moments and to take away the achievements of players and teams is super disrespectful and shitty.

Also, EDG and FNC not doing well was a surprise to me. Maybe edg one was just me being ignorant, but i thought fnc were gonna do at least a LITTLE bit better

Meteor went from playing for a MID Japanese team(Northeption) to being the best sentinel in the world

Although he still overheats sometimes ngl

You don't become best sentinel by just playing good in one year

Less was watching Shanghai from his couch, Meteor lifted the trophy and got 2nd in Madrid. In 2024 he clears every other sentinel by a mile

There was nothing exciting about this tournament besides Boostio's plushie. Then Riot proceeded to ban it because the softies couldn't handle it

If that was exciting then 100T going out by losing 13-1 must have been the most exciting thing of the event for you

when was munchkin in tier 2? the only possible timeframe is for stage 2 of 2022, and at the time he was signed to t1 according to thespike.gg

  • C9 korea 2020 (only team to take a map off of VS at first strike)
  • best JP team of 2021 in crazy raccoon
  • only played in stage 1 of 2022 according to VLR
  • on T1 in 2023
  • on GenG 2024

Good post. There were definitely lows to the tournament (some games being super one-sided or boring, and the crowd sucking) and I would've liked to see some more exciting teams go deeper (FPX and PRX), but the highs were great. The final was fantastic and was absolutely worth staying up late for. Hoping the Chinese teams continue to improve so we get some good matches at champs

yeah but Riot could have easily scheduled the games at 6pm and 9pm Shanghai time instead of 3pm and 6pm, way more people can watch it in Shanghai since it's in the evening and not the middle of the day and matches go from starting at like 2-3am and 5-6am in the West to 5-6am and 8-9am which is much more watchable. Also better for EMEA, only thing is that if there's like 2 3-map matches or a long tech pause the matches might end at like 1:00AM for some APAC viewers but that isn't even bad.

oh that's totally fine as long as you dont think it's a mickey mouse tourney bc of it

It is always the 'my favourite team or <insert name of a clouted team> did not make it so it is a Mickey mouse tourney' narrative which does not make sense for me

#36

I think it's mostly NA viewers saying this, because they aren't as invested in APAC and EMEA teams as they are NA teams.

As well as most of the favourites being eliminated rather early on.

Which is understandable, but calling it a mickey mouse tourney is outright wrong. GEN G deserved the win, and TH looked good as well.
