to give a comparison outside of esports, the large majority of opera singers are female, not because men are inherently "worse" singers but because more women on average try out (opera) singing. we know men can sing.

we know women can play at very high levels which is why it's important to not restrict opportunities based soley on gender

It's also not just about potential gamers not even playing, but about potential pros who don't consider it a viable option, or at all. There is probably a good amount of non-male talent that don't try to go pro or aren't even aware it's possible for them to.
