Region wars on VLR aka "memea" and "assmericas" and "ap0c" and all this bs is genuinely one of the most hilarious things to me

Some kid with a german flag and TH flair for example will be like fuck NA theyre all shit EMEA better when Fnatic and TH (maybe vit) are the only EMEA teams left with... 0 german players... acting like his nation is being represented because theyre from his continent??? Maybe I should support Antarctica because I was born on Earth then???
Then some american kid with a SEN flair will say "memea" or NA diff when his team is comprised of: JohnQT, a moroccan, Sacy, a brazilian, Tenz & Zekken, asian immigrants and Zellsis, your worst player (not saying hes bad) the american. (Not saying Tenz & Zek aren't American & canadian because they are, but do not deny their heritage.)

TLDR: It's a shockingly stupid thing to take part in because in tier 1, teams are comprised of members from everywhere on Earth. They're international puzzles in which the pieces represent the very regions you're shitting on. It's quicker to create a thought than to speak, pls remember :D

it's subjective brother, if there was a match with just players from your city vs players from another city you would support the ones in your city, same with state/region, same with country and it's just the same with continents at the end of the day, no you can't only support antartica just cause you are from earth cause they would be fighting other players from earth, it makes sence for continents cause they are fighting each other, sure the players themselfs are not always from there inheretly, but most of them were build in that enviroment which makes them relatable and gives a sence of brotherhood that makes us want to root from them, those are the players who play in our ranked regions, those are the players close to us geologically, USA is pretty much the size of europe so why is supporting USA diferent from us supporting EU brothers? with that logic you should only support players from your state cause that is what most europeans have to work with considering the size of their countries

I do agree that the whole region wars is stupid; it leads people to turn their brains off and not actually watch the games. Just "teams from other region = bad reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee", making proper discussion is pretty much impossible.
The concept is just part of sports and youre never gonna get rid of it though (and it would ruin a significant amount of the people left on vlrs experience if you were to ngl)

For your problem it might help to think of this whole thing more as a "war of the servers/leagues" rather than associating it with countries.
Country of birth isnt really relevant in esports, which is innately digital, what matters is if you play with the people/watch all their matches.

I have no problem saying a polish player like Iluri is a dach representative, since hes played in our regions for as long as it existed, but I wouldnt consider Tex a Dach representative at all.

And ofc you dont gotta take part in it (blocking some of the bigger baiters is gonna help). Even when commenting on teams from other regions if youre a decent user, dont flame/bait etc, then people generally dont care about your flag and are perfectly fine with engaging with your opinions.

The biggest reason to want the strongest region is because most people only watch one region plus international events. And if the one region you watch is ass, the games feel less important.
