Is toxicity good?

For improving individually. Now I am not talking about casual gamers, there it's obviously a problem, but for those who aspire to get higher ranks, and this might be a bit of a hot take, getting toxicity addressed towards you can highlight your strong and weak sides. Thoughts?

depends on the person, everyone reacts to toxicity differently - some will shut down and play worse & some will use it as fuel to play better

it's not about one game, it's about getting better as a player. For me it can easily be described with a quote from Whiplash ''There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job'' Imagine you go 5-20 in a game, whiffing lineups, instalocking jett and baiting the team, lurking and being unable to get the kills in a game where you could easily win. And then your teammate goes ''Well yeah, unlucky game, GG boys''. And then you think ''well shit, ye, I got unlucky this game'' And then you go next and get 10-20, same exact process, going on forever

what

imagine you have a completely terrible game, you singlehandedly lose the game for your team, and your teammate tells you ''GG guys, unlucky''. Will you still improve on your flaws or will you go into the next game and risk repeating the process one more time?

it depends on the person, not everyone functions in a linear way in which toxicity will improve them, some players shine in a more positive setting and some players shine in a more toxic setting

Actually this depends of the person like #2 said.
I allways improved by self thinking, working as a team.
And you are confunsing request with toxicity, there is no problem to request the teammate to look at his mistake.

If you are casual, a teammate be toxic with you is bad, and if you are a tryharder, you are tryharding wrong if you cannot look at you own mistakes without someone being mean to you.

what if you require perspective on things? I ve played several games and some people can legit go for hours playing this game 24/7 and be blind to see that wide swinging into 5 fucking people is a bad idea

#37

Frags

The problem is that if you say anything for these people, they gonna have their ego hurted and gonna say slurs.
Being toxic or not, most of these """""""""""""""""""high rank""""""""""""""""""" players gonna not hear you by pride, most will not even be able to have a normal discussion.

So i normally just say something like:
"Sorry princess, i didnt know you was this fragile, next time i will try to be more gentle with the girl fellings".
After they call me n word and order me to jump of a tower.

I mean I guess I share that trait with s1mple ( sadly not his skill), he once explained that he is ''toxic'' when giving advice not because he has the intention of traumatizing his teammates but because he wants to win the game. Same for me. When I see an easily winnable game and my teammates or me are just costing us the game by throwing, I cannot feel calm for some reason

fletcher was right towards andrew who was willing to suffer shit like this. Obviously if everyone actedl ike Fletcher then the entire society would be fucked. I am only talking about people who actually have the intention to improve. Like I personally am feeling to hear a random call me a bot instead of saying Good Job, it serves as motivation and not as pity

Strongly disagree. If you flame someone in server most of the time they'll perform worse if they're on your team.

If you big people up they will normally improve within the space of the match.

#9

Frags

but how could you big up someone who insta locked a duelist and just dies in the first 5 seconds of the round??? Maybe it's just an Eastern European mindset or I am getting abused by my teammates, but it's fairly common in eastern europe to outright tell your teammate that what he is doing is fucking stupid

#23
condsicc

I think what he's saying is that you should voice out what he's doing wrong but in a chill way. So like instead of saying "what you're doing is stupid" or "you're shit", say "something's not working, maybe don't do this and try something else."

This has worked in most situations in my games. If people don't listen and that loses you the game, you can just be glad that you won't have him on ur team in the future bc you're going to be a lot better.

but why am I supposed to waste my own time and concentration on clearly explaining to my wanna-be s1mple/tenZ that his move lead us to waiting in the starting menu after we lose 5-13 due to starting every round 4v5?

I just want to see if I am the only one who actually thinks that some people are either too ignorant or too foolish to notice how they pull the same exact moves expecting a different result. I appreciate this thing even when I am the one getting shouted at. I sometimes go into fulltilt or fullsuck mode where I cannot focus for shit and getting blamed and receiving toxicity kinda wakes me up ( in game obviously, hate this shit IRL)

honestly anything you say thats not toxic will be helpful. I'm not telling you to lecture a valorant player who has an iq of a 3rd grader

#4

No, if you want to play as a team, teammates hear more who is chill.
If you are toxic, even you team will look down to you.

But.

If you manage to mess with enemy team heads, without slurs but only provocations? Yes.

#10

I find it more common to see people hear the guy who carries them the game. the toxic who himself is playing like shit is the funniest shit in the world, but a toxic carry is the one who the entire team can build around. Obviously for an actual team it is bad, but for a random 5 man it's good

#28
Pras1mos
0
Frags
+

You need to carry too much to people hear you, like, 40, 35.
Usually this topboard toxic teammates are like, 5 our 6 kills away from the second one, and trashtalk.

And some is crazy aim but dumb brain, and if you ask what you need to do to win the round, most gonna say: "Be good", "Kill the players", "Stop to troll".
Valid, but they dont have a idea of how to win.

But if this teammate replys with: "You are taking too much fights in bad place, and when is time to act, you take to long to act, dies bc try to play alone".
Than you better hear this guy quiet.

well I had an example recently where I go ahead and drop 17 kills in a half where we went 6-6, my teammate goes 2-10, he cannot hold onto A site if it meant getting a gazillion dollars, I tell him that he just holds them from the same angle all the time and they just get a free kill on him, he says that they kill him while running and I tell him that he needs to either get close to dodge all utility or stay deeper and wait for help so as not to get caught out by their utility. his response? ''go ahead and play there, idiot''. I went there, did what I told him to do and got a 3k resetting their economy. The guy didn't learn shit

#41

Some are too pridefull, back when i used to play Val.
Even in diamond, i had to drop 30 kills with nerfed Astrea to win the game.
And even with 30 kills, if i give a suggestion to a dumbass Jett.
They reply: "Go play you own game, virgin, N, you are terrible".

(Proceeds to die in Middle in Icebox again, and i sugested to he dont peek there and hold flank.)

same thing happened with me and my friend. I look at the radar and see his fucking sign go towards the same exact angle for like 5th time in a row and dying, I kept my cool and then I tell him shit like ''Can you please stop going there or do you actually want to fucking lose?'' and he replies with ''I just got unlucky''

it depends on your mindset
if you’re chill w it and don’t care, having people call you a baiter in 8/10 games can tell you to not bait
if you do care tho, all it’s gonna do is make you tilt

#13
Nef0r0
0
Frags
+

it might make you tilt, but if you actually want to improve, you will get over it and will get a lesson from it. If you rush like a headless chicken into a stack, get counter util'd 5 rounds out of 6, maybe you deserve to be called braindead

hell no, it's better to just keep your toxicity to yourself or you will just end up inting the game by just tilting your teammates

what if your teammate locks a duelist and gives the enemy an entry 8/12 rounds, going like 2-11-3 in the process, don't you think that you calling him a fucking idiot and him insisting on pulling these 5iq moves are two different levels of ruining the game?

#25

what if you are on defence and one of your site anchor just gives a free enry to the site?

#51
falken
0
Frags

What exactly are you expecting to happen by putting someone who's having a bad game even more down?

What if instead of shitting on the guy who's already having a bad game and making it worse, you guys talk it out and set-up a play for him to start being useful? There's literally no reason to be an asshole just because someone's having a bad game/day. Try to work it out. You're both trying to win, so start figuring out how you can win with what you have.

#52
Nef0r0
0
Frags

I wrote in one of the post, I use toxicity sometimes as a last resort when a person just seems to be doing exactly the same while expecting a different result. And why would you set up a play for a guy who is currently bottom fragging, and tell me how do you expect making a play on defence when your site anchor is just trying to rush for no reason?

#54
falken
0
Frags
+

You redirect them. Basically the same as you would with a small child. Telling a toddler "don't do that" doesn't lead to anything, they're still gonna do it. You come up with something else for them to do instead.

Being toxic will never work in your favor. Put yourself in that person's shoes. You're having a shit game, your teammates aren't helping you figure out what to do, and then someone starts trashing you. How'd you feel? Motivated? I don't think so lol

#55
Nef0r0

You slightly skipped the step where the teammates try talking to the troller first

#56
falken

Ok, let's try it your way then;
I bet you're hardstuck in pisslow elo cause ur dumbass can't do the most basic shit in the game and click some heads, probably cause u got dropped as a kid. Stop being a lil bitch and go trade your teammate you fucking shitter.

#57

I tried talking to the troller first, but he didn't listen. So what did you learn from that?

#59

You are comparing the in game problem solving to an internet discussion where we discuss things, we don't find a solution to the problem.

#60

we don't find a solution to the problem.

THAT'S EXACTLY MY POINT! LOL You find solutions by talking it out.

#58

Mean(( Any game I tried actually playing a lot and actually gave a shit about I ended up in the 0.1% of players. I do try talking to my teammates first, I do not pursue being toxic just to be toxic, but when I see a retard going for the same retarded ass wide peek into 3 people prefiring him, I will probably get tilted

#61
falken
0
Frags
+

Ok then, there we go. So why can't we come up with some play for that retard to peek or enable him to play agressive, and try to set him up for success? Do we have a Breach? Ask him to stun or flash for the retard. Do we have a Skye? Ask her to flash for the retard. Do we have an Omen? Ask him to smoke for the retard and ask that retard to play in or around the smoke.

#63
Nef0r0
0
Frags
+

Problem is no matter how much utility you use to help him, him going for aim plays and losing that already concerns the team enough that they do not wish to deal with that retard. You might as well ask your teammate and he goes "why the fuck would we waste utility helping him" and instead set up a play on the other part of the map.

well it depends, i don't mind competitive beef and i think it comes as an aspect of good sportsmanship
meanwhile personal statements and all that is out the line and could p much affect everyone

#42
Nef0r0

obviously going personal is wild, like offending nationality and things like that, but just telling the guy ''Can you please stop trolling and play together with the team and stop playing as if you are braindead'' isn't bad

#40
vlrbum
0
Frags

i mean the way i look at it, if you did everything right and just got aim diffed by your opponent that's okay sometimes its just not your day but if you are trying to do dogshit ass plays every round some type of criticism should be given

#53
Nef0r0
0
Frags

And if the person just ignores the criticism and insists on doing the same plays, is it logical someone will just give up on the game?

#21

toxicity never works

#24
Nef0r0

some people don't understand without getting shouted at. Experienced this shit in CS, had a guy in my stack who would wide swing one angle 11/12 rounds on T-side, lost 9/10 fights he had there, I told him two times that he doesn't need to fight there, it goes nowhere, and he just ignored my advice and kept on pulling this shit

#29

shouting isn't necessarily toxic, depends on the dynamic

Kindness goes a long way in every aspect of this life. There are ways to word things so that people are more receptive as it then falls under constructive criticism rather than toxicity

#73

I mean for me personally toxicity is split into two things, one is productive, second is not so much.
1st - tantrum "OMG YOU are so trash"
2nd - criticism (even with some harsh words) "Why are you going for the same play when you get countered by their smoke+molly combo

#43
Ultia
0
Frags

No. Nobody is going to listen to what you have to say if your delivery is toxic. They'll either get defensive or mute you — neither of which is good in a team environment.

#45
Nef0r0
0
Frags
+

I mean I personally use it as a last resort, I try being calm at first, trying to give them an input, but if I see that the person is just ignoring me despite me being really tolerant towards them trolling, then I just try one last time before giving up on them

#46
Kalerx

For me I always stay positive no matter what and I play mainly on the Japanese or Hong Kong servers now so the toxicity part isn't really needed especially around Asc+ since if we actually do a mistake we just talk about it or if an instalock duelist is dying ever 5 seconds into a round. Instead of flaming and being a negative Nancy over everything we just suggest to do an aggressive set-play to help him out which in turns helps us out as a team. Maybe it has something to do with ur region or maybe ur toxicity mentality has to do with the previous games you play idk, but JP has always been strict with toxicity to the point you get your account suspended for it in the past so yeah all I do now is figuring out how to help each other and staying positive cause it;s just a game even in mid ranks like Ascendant, it's still just a game at the end of the day.

#48
Nef0r0
0
Frags

I mean I come from eastern european cs, where the team communication (mind you this is the best team ever assembled by a region was talking like this) https://youtu.be/fDQQA8MrwNk So maybe it's just a thing I am used to https://youtu.be/Sw2hn71lTlI?t=90

Imo full on toxicity doesn't help but passive-aggressiveness works wonders. I've played alot of initiator and alot of the time when I'm droning out an awp line and someone doesn't wait and dies for it I hit em with something like:

"Damn, we're not waiting for drone there? Do we not know someone can hold that? Are we new to the game?"

and they almost never make the same mistake again after that.

True, like sometimes explaining this situation from a far and in a basic concept helps.
