How good was yay?

I'm fairly new to the Val scene, been following for a year or so. I know yay was part of the Optic core that won a Masters, but I keep hearing about him having a god-tier season. Can anyone fill me in with how good he was? Links to old VODs welcome too but I'm just curious with how far apart he was from the other players at the time.

highest peak ever is tenz, didnt drop a single map, highest rated player in history and no ones even been close to beating his records

Reading comprehension broski he said across an entire year not a tournament

i just wanted to add highest peak a player has ever achieved, its impossible to achieve the peak tenz had on a consistent level its not human

bruh it was one tournament

the first ever international tournament, when they scene and the attending teams were mostly underdeveloped

with time someone will overtake his records, chill out

consistency when regarding peaks is irrelevant. Whole point of a "peak" is the peak of your gameplay and the best you've every played it isnt about consistency

So then asuna has a higher peak than tenz since he dropped 48 kills in a map, confirmed asuna >>> tenz

no, this is in a vct international tournament setting, where the best of the best play each other. I'll post this again since you seemed to miss it: https://x.com/willminder/status/1744843988673184187

The game has been out for 4 years Brodie I’m not one esport or sport does one event or tournament count as a peak

#51
BulkyLettuce

consistency when regarding peaks is irrelevant

also tourney is a good metric since there is only 3 tourney in a year

Alfajer is actually more impressive lmao

TenZ played plumbers at the beginning of the game, Alfa got practically the same numbers while playing in a much harder era

Alfa has a higher peak than yay too

Yeah the Alfajer Tokyo was insane, he did it on a sentinel agent as well

His literal point is that despite there being better players, tenz still holds the record for being the highest rated player in a VCT international tournament. He never mentioned anything about one year being harder than the other he just stated that tenz record is the peak even if tenz had it easier

No one will replicate that performance because he was playing against complete shitters. Tenz in reykjavik was a radiant smurfing in bronze lobbies

This is obvious bait, but to understand how insane prime yay was, he went negative maybe 1 time across all internationals. Statistically, he went 2nd, 4th, and 1st against everyone in Masters 1, Masters 2, and champs respectively.

Not bait - I've watched the old Masters but I've just been kept out of the loop with regards to yay. That's just absolutely insane though. Do you think it's because he was the first to really master Jett, or was he just an aim god?

#17
Uncleben

Frags

He was super consistent mostly, very good aimer with great positioning
What set him apart from all the other good players was consistency, he didn’t have as high peaks as jinggg or Aspas but he never ever played bad, went negative or anything

#18
Sidyon

he didn't master jett first he was just an aim god with an amazing support system behind him and one of the best igls to ever play the game to lead him

He fully mastered OP chamber, but besides that he had the calmest most consistent aim. During this time, you just don't peek the angle yay is holding.

Prime yay is like if prime Messi and Ronaldo was combined into one super player who was playing in like a Sunday league. He was leagues above the competition and set some records that are yet to be broken (idk if this is true but it sounds cool)

people should mention that before he even got signed to envy/optic he was on a shitter squad called andbox and would literally drop nukes every single match just to lose
but thats where he got his rep from anyway, after joining envy the actually history began

Just know that when yay was in his prime, there wasn't any discussion about who the best player in the world was.

He was insane. For context, everyone today thinks about Aspas as the GOAT, but Yay was the one guy in 2022 who could diff him reliably (until grand champs final). Keep in mind this guy was putting up superstar consistency against a LOUD with Aspas, Less, Pancada, Sacy, and Saadhak, which would still be a superteam today. He diffed literally everyone, people would see a team go towards his site, and be like ok round’s over,

he still diffed him in the grand finals https://www.vlr.gg/130685/loud-vs-optic-gaming-valorant-champions-2022-gf/?game=95131&tab=overview

The reason why you see so much hate about him is because he was THAT GUY. Think of every pro player you see dominating rn (Aspas/Zekken/Oxy/Jaw/Texture/Something/Woot/Rb etc) he was all of them but x100. If somebody on the enemy team peaked him, no matter what gun he had he would win the 1v1. During 2022 he went negative in 1 series on the intl stage.

No one today and even in 23 are even comparable to him-hes just that good.
