has been a boring year in VCT apart from Pacific getting its first trophy
Pacific is top heavy
Americas is a coinflip
EMEA is a mess
China is a surprising region
Last year was a really fun year and lots of storylines
I think it was a good idea as a showmatch to show off all of the teams, I just think rito just messed up making it such a big thing and giving the winner an extra slot for the next tourney because it just rewarded who could make the most of the limited downtime between the newly formed teams and letting old teams do much better than newer ones.
lets look at this year: Madrid both EMEA teams get grouped Pacific 2nd & 3rd Shang Hai Pacific wins and gets 5-6 with one team getting grouped.
Shang Hai: EMEA gets 2 teams through groups via the help of 3 chinese matches. In playoffs the only team to beat a non emea team was TH.
So thats emea tournament 1- 0 team region, tournament 2- 1 team region.
Lets look at americas SEN win Madrid LOUD in 4th. 100t in 4th G2 in 3rd at Shang Hai and lev gets grouped. Now by placement that would objectively make EMEA the most top heavy. Americas would be 1st in that placement but IMO the level of inconsistency the high-placing teams have shown makes them 2nd behind the consistent top dogs... pacific.
U dont watch valorant i guess π€·ββοΈ
International Qualification:
2023-2024:
EMEA teams that have made an international event in franchising (7/11 - FNC, TL, NAVI, TH, GX, FUT, KC).
PAC teams that have made an international event in franchising (5/11 - PRX, DRX, T1, ZETA, GENG)
Only 2024:
EMEA - (4/11 - KC, TH, FUT, FNC)
PAC - (3/11 - PRX, GENG, T1)
TLDR: EMEA has more variety in who it sends.
......................................................................................................................................................
International Performances:
LOCK//IN 2023:
EMEA: 4/10 Teams = 17th-32nd || 4/10 Teams = 9th-16th || 1/10 Teams = 3rd-4th || 1/10 Teams = 1st
PACIFIC: 7/10 Teams = 17th-32nd || 1/10 Teams = 9th-16th || 1/10 Teams = 5th-8th || 1/10 Teams = 3rd-4th
EMEA is more balanced and not as top heavy (EMEA has 6 teams that won at least 1 match compared to PACIFIC's 3 teams).
TOKYO 2023:
EMEA: 1st, 5th-6th, 9th-10th, 11th-12th
PACIFIC: 3rd, 7th-8th, 9th-10th
Without best team, EMEA has better placements for 2nd-4th teams than PACIFIC's 2nd-4th.
CHAMPS 2023:
EMEA: 4th, 7th-8th, 9th-12th, 9th-12th, 13th-16th
PAC: 2nd, 5th-6th, 9th-12th, 13th-16th
Without best team, EMEA has better placements for 2nd-5th teams than PACIFIC's 2nd-5th.
MADRID 2024:
EMEA: 5th-6th, 7th-8th
PAC: 2nd, 3rd
Without best team, PAC has better placement for 2nd team than EMEA's 2nd team.
SHANGHAI 2024:
EMEA: 2nd, 5th-6th, 7th-8th
PAC: 1st, 5th-6th, 11th-12th
Without best team, EMEA has better placement for 2nd-3rd teams than PACIFIC's 2nd-3rd.
TLDR: EMEA has better placements than PACIFIC if we do not include the best team in 4/5 franchising international events so far.

wow the brainrot...
I love how you brought up 2023 in a discussion about 2024 because of how wrong you are.
PACIFIC if we do not include the best team in 4/5 franchising international events so far
like... brother can you read?
AT BEST in 2024 its 50/50. But if you spent any time actually watching a single group split it'd be clear emea is by far the most top heavy region. It is sad that T1 qualed to shang hai via 1 game thats a huge flaw in the current playoffs system since they're probably the 5/6th best pacific team behind geng prx drx talon and rrq.
also the fact you had to gas up FPX to make FUT seem like a better team is hilarious i hadn't seen that level of cope before it was fun to read.
FPX is better than most of Pacific lmfao. stfu with ur dumass.
In 2024 EMEA has 4 different teams that have gotten to the top - KC (Kickoff and Madrid), TH (Shanghai), FNC (stage 1 playoffs), and FUT (group stage record). These top teams have lost many games to the other teams, including TH losing to VITALITY and BBL, FUT losing to VITALITY, FNC losing to NAVI, and KC losing to NAVI. KOI GX TL M8 have also grabbed many maps and NAVI have also looked like a top 3 team at one point.
PACIFIC has only had GENG or PRX be #1, with the rest of the teams not even being close.

Finally, have you been watching PACIFIC matches recently? Because I have and that TALON vs DRX game was a disaster. Where the fuck were Talon's fundamentals? Ban and Governor throwing rounds left and right. Talon somehow beat most teams in the region like how bad is the rest of the region compared to GENG and PRX.

Churn =/= a region not being top heavy. Having a bunch of shit teams beating each other doesnt mean much.

see above. all youve "proven" is that the majority of emea is around the same level. Given their international results this year (getting grouped in madrid and a single non emea/china win other than TH in shang hai) that doesnt mean much. A bunch of shit teams trading losses does not make a region not "top heavy" the 2-10th EMEA teams have consistently shown they are not competitive unlike pacifc this year.

have you been watching EMEA this year? or any year? blindness is a serious medical condition seek help.
Nope. Right after lock in FNC won literally every game they played except the regional gf against TL, where they lost but all of VLR unanimously agreed that it was a fluke from TL. Then they went on to win Tokyo without any losses, absolutely demolished EG. What do you mean "they weren't expected to win" lmao
I remember sliggy saying this at some point during kickoff but it's gonna be pretty much impossible to top 2023 for storylines, we had the 3-11 comeback on map 5 of lock in grand finals, prx being revitalised after dropping their igl and especially the absurd eg underdog run from looking like a bottom 5 team in franchising to winning champs which imo is one of the craziest storylines in esports history. 2024 has still been pretty good though with the revival of sen and apac first trophy
