Now that map 2 is over, I wanted to make this thread just to shed awareness of the correlation between GC and transphobia.
As a trans person, some of the comments I have seen on this site have been disgusting, I shouldn’t really have expected more, but it feels like the threads are never on the actual Valorant being played, but whom can be the most controversial, without getting banned
Despite being trans, even I was critical of the roster EG put together, and that criticism only increased after the keenc situation. Riot made it clear that they were attempting to put more effort into the ‘screening’ process of players, but the Malibu and Keenc situation disproved that. That split was nightmarish for trans people as myself and others, as all the threads were basically just transphobic. (In retrospect, keenc and Malibu deserved the hate), but for the players who identified as NB, there is a clear line between criticism, and hatred.
Now the flor situation is very different, yes flor is transgender, but that’s it, she’s transgender, and actually is transitioning. Yes she is absolutely cracked at val, but I don’t think that would be any different if she was assigned female at birth. GC is meant to be a space where gender minorities can be represented in an open and accepting space. Comments calling her ‘he’, or mentioning her ‘adams Apple’ or saying she should get ‘surgery’ or take ‘hormones’, is uncalled for and just mean. Flor is still young, and a person like the rest of us, let her live her life how she wants to live it.
Us trans people are humans, We live our lives just like everyone else, and we don’t even want your respect, we just dont want to be hated for existing and wanting to feel comfortable in our bodies
This is very long, and no one will probably read it, but if one person reads it and changes their mind even in the slightest way, then I know I’ve done good
And if it gets deleted, well, to the silent but strong trans community on vlr, I tried :)
