But using one piece to gatekeep anime is pretty much the same thing as gatekeeping one piece, because one piece fans would act superior if you don't like it.

Anime will never translate well to live action because a lot of things are exaggerated in animanga to account for the emotional disconnect between drawings and reality. This is especially true for anime adapted from manga because it's harder to convey emotion in manga without the use of screen tones, backgrounds, or some form of over exaggeration. It just looks jarring and bizarre in live action.
one piece's abilities/powers, especially devil fruits, are cartoony. I highly doubt that it will look good in live action
The gomu gomu did look fine but agreed. I wonder how will they do the logia animations
I am not sure about it, but I hope it won't be that bad and will help to introduce broader public to the goat of fiction
the one piece art style is so unique, I dont see it translating well in any medium other than anime.

I surely felt some heart in it. Definitely had some one piece goofiness. But I think I felt was the luffy actor was trying so hard to act dumb. It made him look like he’s overacting. Zoro actor selection was on point. Rest I think it has potential. But Anime adaptation never really works.
He was just there for the actors selection, that’s it. That was his only involvement. Also, Do you really think Goda has time for this. His health is a big issue, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to burden himself with another thing
