In an interview, Leo Faria comments that Riot may "decrease" the number of "fixed partner" VCT teams in the new 2027 cycle:
"With the end of the cycle in 2026, 2027 is an opportunity for us to make big changes. This is the moment when Ascension teams can become fixed partners, have the chance to play on the big stages. I think we want to be more open.
Being more open can mean many things, today we have 10 "fixed" partners and two Ascension teams, it could be that we change to eight "fixed" and four rotating, six fixed and six rotating. Maybe we'll have an LCQ and tier two teams that aren't from the franchise can play in the Masters. It could be a lot of things"
The opportunity for tier 2 teams to play Masters and Champions would be great, it would certainly attract more investment from organisations to the scene!
