They're spanish words, and all spanish words are gendered. because some words are gendered feminine, a lot of girls in latin-american countries have names like Estrella and Esperanza.
They probably didn't expect the feminine connotation since something like Esperanza just means "Hope", and Estrella just means "Star" if you put it through google translate.
Well... Korean language doesn't have a specific 'noun gender' or 'feminine tone', so I don't think I feel it much. We don't think much about it, and I'm sure they didn't think much about it when they chose their nicknames. What I do feel is that there are a weird number of typical english names (ivy, magaret, felix, francis, ash, kally, ken, jerry and more...)
