In defense of Butterfly

1. He's not the one who translated the post lol, he just linked to a translation (and he did not cherry-pick a bad one on purpose, it was the only widely spread one out at the time)
2. IMO he made it pretty clear in the thread that he was not taking sides. He hinted at the potential perpetrator just as a theory with no malicious intent
3. Some people may say, "Well if it wasn't confirmed in the first place why report it?"
   There is some merit to this, as it's bad to comment on the situation we don't know the full context behind
   However, I think it says more about the people who draw fast and loose conclusions based on limited info than the person who reports the info

His mistake was simply spreading something that was only confirmed as fake news later on. He should own up to it as it caused mass confusion.
However just like he did not know what was going on, NO ONE on this site can claim to know what truly happened
The only two who will ever truly know what happened are drx player and drx fan in question
I think it is time to put the issue to rest and let DRX handle it

yes, finally someone with a measured take. vlrtards generate an opinion based on someone else's opinion all the time. butterflyeffect made a bad mistake in calling it rape, but he said over and over in multiple threads that it wasn't confirmed, that it would be best to stay neutral, that we should wait for an official drx statement, etc. he should apologize, which i think he probably will, but he last replied to a post 2 hours ago, i think he's probably asleep.

just want to clarify that I'm not sure if he accidentally called it rape or called it rape because he considers nonconsensual ejaculation to be rape
there are some countries where people count what the player allegedly did as rape and there are laws in place to reinforce that idea
want to make sure my post did not imply that Butterfly believes he made a mistake in calling it rape

I don't hate butterfly and while he does take some of the blame, most of it is to the guy who mistranslated it in the first place. Addressing ur points:

1. Fair
2. Not entirely true, if you look back on the posts of that thread, his own opinions on the matter were clear and it showed in his replies.
3. I would say it's about equal. He def knew that what he posted was going to be big on vlr and that people were going to attack the person that was being accused regardless of whether there were conclusive facts or not. He should have the common sense to understand that doing so would bring more unwarranted attention to a player that possibly didn't commit the crime he was accused off and imo that was a very big fuck up on his part.

My third point kind of goes into addressing your last part, if no one knew what actually happened, he shouldn't have posted anything in the first place. And at the very least, shouldn't have continued replying and making it seem like it was the next big scandal of Valorant. Saying he didn't cause any harm to both Flashback's reputation and career would be false, he's just not the main guy at fault.

I do agree some people are going way too far though.

It's just that he is the one that spread the narrative about being a rapist

For the opinion part, that's not what I'm talking about. Some of the posts, you can tell he was trying to push a narrative. Whether it was to help people get more info or gain attention we will never know. for example, he said "judging by the original thread, said player was not behaving nice and was most likely forceful" and a person replied to that saying "there is literally a numbered list of everything he did, not once did it mention him being forceful". The tone in some of his messages insinuated that the allegations were true when there was no evidence.

People are saying butterfly just made an accidental mistake and that is most likely true. It just doesn't take away from the damage his thread caused.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention he reached out to the accuser. He was just trying to do too much imo and it backfired immensely.
