A major is an international Riot sponsored event. But Champions hold more value as they have Cosmetic Items and more teams.
Qwertyy [#2]champions is a major, not a single elim mickey mouse fucking lock//in lookin ass tournament
Im just getting tired seeing you on my screen. No anger or annoyance. Just tired.

But why? Just because of bad format it doesn’t count? So the many csgo majors that have had bad formats dont count? Did NIP fluke because their group stage format sucked in Cologne?

technically speaking, the format of the tournament wasn't the only thing different, but also the lack of merit-based qualification into it. LOCK//IN was more of a "showmatch tournament" (as it was explained by Riot executives) in order to introduce the IL (international leagues) teams to the viewers.
Anyone that says LOCK//IN is on the same level as Masters simply lacks understanding of competitive play & formats.

Ok so unless otherwise stated A riot sponsored event is a major
cocoluna [#8]Ok so unless otherwise stated A riot sponsored event is a major
Major and minor come from CS and are dictated by scale (prize pool) and competition
Using that logic Lock in = exhibition event to showcase franchise teams with half the prize pool of a masters. Not a major
Barbatos [#7]Exactly.
It works like this:
1 Champions = 3 Masters
1 Masters = 1 LOCK//IN
LOCK//IN = VCT AMERICAS/EMEA/PACIFIC
1 champions = 3 masters??
tell me the reason
dayyaan1 [#9]Major and minor come from CS and are dictated by scale (prize pool) and competition

Nah it's only if it's a valve sponsored event. There is literally no debating this. The prize pool determines the tier of the event on liquipedia nothing else. Iem cologne is not a major unless valve sponsors it nor is katowice or any of the other events
Congo1 [#3]Okay here is a ranking of all vct events
S+: Champs
S: Masters, Lockin
A: VCT EMEA/AMERICAS/PACIFIC
B: Ascension events
C: Regional VCT ChallengersSo champs not a full tier above
Barbatos [#7]Exactly.

are you saying 1 masters = regional league bro

A lot of people feel same as you are rn when they see u here.
cocoluna [#8]Ok so unless otherwise stated A riot sponsored event is a major
I did not say what is and what is not a major, because that term does not exist in Valorant. What I've explained is coming from Riot themselves: LOCK//IN was not to be compared to a Masters tournament, nor did it try to be one. Simple as that. You're trying to argue something that wasn't even debated by me, must be quite bored...
But since you're so bored, let me tell you that "Majors" (the term created in CS) did not require Valve involvement (that's a thing introduced in 2013). CS had Majors starting with early 2000s, and they were supposed to meet a certain criteria (based on competitiveness and prize pool money). According to the logic that you're trying to use, Riot being involved in an event (which by the way, is most of the events altogether in Valorant, everything is a major in your mind) has no bearing in calling an event Major or not.

the word Major I would assume originated from golf as golf has masters which count as a major and the highest level of golf has 4 majors each year. To decide if a tournament is considered a major as the word is subjective almost everyone in golf determines if people internationally from many different regions and countries come together and compete with a decently large prize pool. In those terms Lock//In would count as a major.
I see ur argument also states that it was considered a showmatch tournament but would a showmatch still dictate things like region slots in future majors? The two majors/masters each year as riot said the winning region will receive an extra slot and because this year we only had 1 why did lock//in dictate the extra slot if it wasn't a major?
Lock//In was only 100k short of masters in 2021 which is considered a major so does a 20% decrease in prize pool make a tournament no longer a major?
Last point which is important is that Majors are S+ or S tier events right? Lock//In was considered an S tier event on liquipedia and by tournament standards.

Also, a tournament being a qualifier for another tournament does not equal both tournaments being on same level. I know even you can figure that out

did u even read what I said?
samhatts [#18]I find it so funny that americas people say lock-in isn't a major. I garuntee that in the other world that Loud won lock-in it would be a major in their eyes
Nope...low prize pool (Fnatic get the same amount of prize money with TL, Prx, and Loud for win their league), no qualification (every team can compete, unlike any other tournament hosted by Riot), and has a worst format. It's weird if anyone called that tournament as a major (regardless who are the winner), except Riot said that.

if its an international event with riot sponorship and "tier 1" teams playing in it. thats a major
Zerphyr1 [#21]did u even read what I said?
I did, unfortunately, you have not read what I wrote.
"I see ur argument also states that it was considered a showmatch tournament"
Take it up with Riot executives, not with me. It's not my argument, they said these things themselves. I'm not sure why so many people here are trying to fight over this characterization like it wasn't something already settled by Riot at the time LOCK//IN took place.. you guys are sometimes a different kind of stupid.. Go fight with Leo Faria, not on vlr.gg
Also, the term Major is from CS, not from Golf.

where did they say it was a showmatch? I still can't find any link or any video of riot saying that lock//in is a showmatch when I ask people

Sounds like you didn't watch the event...
jkjkjk [#30]Sounds like you didn't watch the event...
I asked a question. Can you please tell me where they said this?
champions = masters. although there are slightly more teams in the playoff round of champions, the total teams competing (through qualifiers) is the same so it doesn't really matter.
lock-in is completely different in a vast number of ways that prove it is a show tournament. even rito called it a show tournament or kickoff event
Zerphyr1 [#31]I asked a question. Can you please tell me where they said this?
It was said during the transmission of the event. They interviewed executives, you would've known if you watched it. I don't work for Riot, I don't know where all the recordings are, nor do I work for you, got better things to do.
Also, if I remember well, Leo Faria hinted to this when he was on the Podcast with Hiko and sgares.
You'll find it if you actually want to find it, stop acting stupid.

Just because it isn't the same level doesn't make it not a major. It is a Riot sponsored event on the international stage with some of the most competitive teams in the world playing, most of the big names that were here this time, and there were stakes even if they weren't as high. The level of competition at LOCK//IN is higher than at 2021 Champs yet we will consider Masters 2 a major. It's not an argument.

so you don't actually know where exactly they said this. So your just going "off memory". If it's so easy to find you would just link in where they said it instead of spending a minute replying and typing messages to respond to where this "video" is.

I told you where they said it. Go watch. Sounds like you just want things served to you in life on a silver spoon...
You're that didn't watch the event, hence doesn't know what they're talking about, but expect others to educate you with direct links and timestamps...

I'm just saying you can't pull random info from your ass and when someone asks where you found this information you just say go find it yourself even though you yourself can't prove they said this.

I literally told you where, you just need to go watch to find it.
You: " If it's so easy to find you would just link in where they said it"
Nobody said it's easy. Riot is notorious for making replays hard to find, they're freaking unlisted youtube videos (you can't keysearch them), which is why I'm not going to spend 30mins 1 hour of my time to do it.
If you're too lazy to find this info yourself, hire someone to do it. Here you go, I'll give you a head start since you're a lazy fuck: https://tinyurl.com/2s3p6cfw

Just because you're too lazy and not in the know doesn't mean something did not happen. You sound quite mentally retarded in this aspect, unfortunately.
