You can probably get a decent budget gaming laptop.
ASUS TUF or Acer Nitro 5 comes to mind. Might be difficult running 144Hz on high settings on OW2. I had a Acer Nitro 5 and it was working fine, however it does have horrible heating issues and its HDD is so slow I recommend getting a slot in SSD.

However, if you want to maximize the value of your money, I recommend getting a gaming pc instead unless you’re continuously on the move. Gaming laptops typically have a really small life span of 3-5 years. 5 being extremely generous.

Overrated. If you're going out enjoy the outing without thinking about gaming. Keep the gaming at home and it will be better long term when he wants to upgrade

just buy a pc brother. a laptop is not worth it. a pc maybe more expensive but you will not be dissapointed with the results.

A pc would be much cheaper for something of similar or slightly better performance anyways.

Tip for those suggesting laptops from outside India: Due to huge taxes in India on electronics and luxury items (which an 850 dollar laptop is in btw) prices can be higher in India from anywhere between 1.5 to 2 times the retail price in the US or similar countries unless the manufacturer makes extra efforts to sell the devices at international pricing.

So a $1000 laptop will cost around $1400-1800 in India on average.

My recommendation: Don't give a shit about the company or the brand name. Look at the specs. People will argue about servicing and that is the most bullshit argument when buying laptops. Buy a laptop that does not need servicing in the first place. Most laptops are self-repairable and for more complex services go to your standard laptop service guy. Most brands that boast about good service make shit laptops cough Dell cough and their laptops are hard to self-repair.

You can go with Asus TUF, Acer Predator (if you can manage to get it in that range, sometimes it's available) or nitro, Asus ROG or Lenovo Legion. Find the best specs you can with these models (they vary with time so exact links don't work). I am comparing cooling solutions and I have friends who have been running these laptops for 3+ years consistently.

PS: To people saying buy a PC, you really need a laptop in India. PCs won't do.

Why not a PC? Or is it for school/work related purposes.

Most people buy laptops when going to colleges here. So you really really need a laptop. A PC just won't do.

If you are not a college student though, you should buy a PC anytime.

My biggest gripe with laptops within this range is that they have terrible combination of hardware here in the models available for sale in India. There are less powerful GPUs paired with much capable CPUs or vice versa, 16gigs ram is not dual channeled, or if you find a laptop that has these balanced then it most likely has garbage thermals or terrible battery life or 60hz screen.

You will still be able to find a good laptop in this range at a good price but it will have hardware of previous generation.

Msi usually offers very good specs on their laptops for a cheap price, however they have very low number of service centers in India. I have a msi gf65 10sdr from 2020, it had very good specs for the price when I bought it, but after buying I realised it had very poor thermals.

Lenovo IdeaPad gaming is overall a very good laptop but has poor battery life

Acer nitro is good, but has heating issues and their 16gb ram variants come with single channeled memory.

Lenovo legion and Asus Rog are simply incredible, but I doubt if you will be able to find them with 144hz screens around 70k

Desktops have a better price to performance ratio. A gaming laptop will overheat in a year and the processors are super underclocked

Yeah but sometimes laptop is only option if they are student and still want to play games if they cannot afford a desktop and a laptop
