I think they lose 2-0 but make it respectable.

posted 4 months ago

They got

13-1'd by DRX on Bind (Fnatic Map Pick)
13-6'd by Loud on Lotus (Fnatic Map Pick)
13-4'd by Loud on Split (Fnatic Map Pick)

and people still reuse the 'Only lost cuz of loud' excuse

The truth is all three teams that placed above Fnatic were better teams. EG especially was never gonna lose like that, and it's not speculation, it actually happened, they played those teams, we saw what they did to DRX, etc.

posted 4 months ago

none of those teams were gonna beat THE loud btw.

posted 4 months ago

eg also wasted 2 weeks of preparation with their sub until demon1 could return last minute. So both of the grand finalists at champs.

posted 4 months ago

Don't worry their 2 win conditions:

  1. Mickey Mouse format
  2. Best players in the other top teams having visa issues

are gone. They also lost Leo "the bailout" Janesson to multi-kill people through smokes. They will return to their true 'fraudnatic' form.

i agree and trust me, im a sova main - i love wallbanging people on ascent. But boathouse and tiles really shouldn't be spammable. If there's one (minor) flaw in ascent it's those two spots, everything else is perfect.

posted 4 months ago

i meant spamming as in wallbangs

posted 4 months ago

bro what Ascent is min. top 3 map in the game. It's also the most skilled map in the game. If you lose on Ascent, it's because the other team was playing better Valorant than you. Only real issue is that it's a bit too spammable (boathouse and tiles shoudn't be spammable, but that's about it).

posted 4 months ago

It will forever be lotus. Any map where you can put full double senti util on one site and still can't hold it is unforgivable. Or that you can accidently lock 5 duelists against a practiced team at your level and still win. Horrificly bad map that doesn't even feel like valorant.

posted 4 months ago

my bad maybe its a bit confusing. Of the controller GOAT candidates - those 4 - (which karon is in the convo of b/c #10), who can ball the hardest?

posted 4 months ago

they have more of the top senti players, but Less bodybagged them all at champs 23. The only role they have a legit GOAT candidate in is Scan init, which is between Leo and Sacy.

posted 4 months ago

yeah forsure, but my point is that we aren't talking about accolades just who can 'get buckets' out of those 4, and karon can definitely get buckets

posted 4 months ago

he's already been to 2 finals and won one, like it or not he's already in the top controllers discussion. Also this isn't about accolades.

posted 4 months ago

Forget accolades

I remember coming home one night late recently and tuning in to the GEN.G game and this mf was randomly like 22/8 or something

posted 4 months ago

Marved, Pancada, Mako, Karon

Forget accolades, just purely off of "who can ball the hardest"

What do you rank them (all prime).

My ranking:

  1. Pancada
  2. Karon
  3. Marved
  4. Mako
posted 4 months ago

Cuz Gen.G is GEN.G, PRX was the pre-tournament favorite to win shanghai, and DRX has a real shot at winning champs.

Nobody in EMEA 23 besides FNC was relevant. Like seriously name the 2nd best team in EMEA 2023 and what their best achievement was that year, its gonna sound pathetic.

the problem isn't that its attack or defense sided, basically every map is. The problem is that it's braindead design that rewards you for playing in a way that doesnt feel like valorant. Didn't a gc team lock 5 duelists on it by accident and win? even if its gc, that tells you all you need to know about the map.

posted 4 months ago

nah lotus is awful. Worst map in the game by far. You can literally put an entire sentinel setup on a site and still can't hold it. There was even a round where a pro team (i think it was SEN but im not sure) put all their cypher AND deadlock util on C and still couldn't hold it. Playing it doesnt even feel like valorant.

The double PHD + Top Secret security clearance requirement was by far the most outrageous one I saw (one PHD in ML/AI/Stats, the other in Engineering), but there's alot of postings that require alot more than what the actual 'job duties' list. I think a big problem is that the people who work in HR have no idea what Data Science/ML is outside of 5 min YT breakdowns they watched on it. You really don't need a PHD and 1+ years of experience to perform and understand a logistic regression. But they don't know that.

Good luck.

posted 4 months ago

The job market is just as fucked as CS if not worse. People with 5+ years of experience at FAANG are having trouble getting interviews.
You basically don't have a chance unless you got a referral, which I was very lucky to (shoutout my college roommates friend).

As a little story, my pc recently had a problem with its ram so i went to get it fixed, and the guy fixing it mentioned that his daughter studied data science. She had went to berkeley (tied for #1 school in the country for this, with Stanford and CMU), and couldn't get a job as a data scientist, so she's currently working as a Data Analyst (sort of a data-science adjacent job, less focus on ML/Stats, more on visualization) and will be for the foreseable future, until she can get enough experience to move up, which she won't know how long will last. This is very common.

posted 4 months ago

if you like stats (its basically all probability and stats, virtually all of machine learning has a probabilistic interpretation) and enjoy it, then choose it. The job market is just as fucked tho. I once saw a posting that wanted 2 PHD's and Active Top Secret Security clearance. - A data scientist.

initiating for people who have no clue how to play the game is self-harm, just lock Iso and run at them until you get into good elo.

Loud 3-0

posted 4 months ago

if we go same roles as your order
best chance is:

aspas (duelist) - something
woot (init/duelist) - N4rrate/Forsaken
primmie(duelist/smokes) - idk anybody that fits that that can keep up with him mechanically / EDIT: Cryo or EG Demon1
texture (duelist) - Oxy
sayf (duelist) - Zekken

Role-agnostic 5:
Less, Alfa, Oxy, Meteor, Something

posted 4 months ago

No Less is criminal, also i'm not so sure about demon1 currently

posted 4 months ago

One month is not enough to be better, especially when its by such a slight margin. You could say he had a (slightly) better month. If Chron keeps this same small distance between him and alfa through champs -> halfway through next kickoff or whatever, then I can say he's the best on fnatic. If its a bigger margin, then less time obviously. But as of now there's no reason to believe that he is better than Alfa, and that's only assuming that stats tell the whole story. In my eye test of watching the game, alfa's mechanics and getting 2 in situations he shouldn't seems to be much more important to Fnatic's success.

Also, GMB was Nat's team, we all knew it. People who say he was carried are wrong, but he was always #2.

posted 4 months ago

The Oxy example is used to demonstrate that stats don't tell the whole story.

But for the sake of clarity, lets just focus on stats:
Having (slightly) higher stats than someone at a point in time doesnt mean you are a better player than that person. This is because past events have influence on our beliefs, which are then updated over time with more data.

As a toy example, lets say the team that just won the NBA championship starts the next season with a record of 1-2, while a bad team starts 2-1 playing vs same teams. Would you say that team 2 is better just off of that? Obviously not, but if the NBA champion continued to have a bad season and the other team continued to have a good season, somepoint therein you would start to believe it.

Going back to val lets make the unrealistic assumption that the Rating stat is a perfect proxy for your true skill level/impact/etc, treating it as a parameter to be estimated.

Alfajer (and Leo) have been better than Chronicle for basically their entire time on Fnatic, and Chronicle having a (marginally) better rating this stage is obviously not strong enough evidence to put Chronicle above Alfa. If this continues in the future, he may begin to have a case, but having 0.04 better rating is not enough data to update our beliefs drastically. This is how rational people think, and it's actually how we are currently trying to teach machines to think in the field of machine learning. If you want further resources on bayesian statistics and the updating of beliefs with data, I will be happy to point you to some resources.

TLDR: Having a slightly better season that someone doesn't automatically make you better than them. Nobody reasonable thinks that way

posted 4 months ago

Even if this happened there would still be 0 women in franchising

posted 4 months ago

not only did I watch, I even stole one of his shock lineups on haven

Eye test, brain test, and past experience point me towards alfajer being better.

Only stats point to Chronicle (and the stats are similar too btw)

posted 4 months ago

The only case for this is by looking purely at stats alone. Like I pointed out, you could make the case that Icy is a better jett than Oxy by just looking at stats (nobody believes that).

By the same token, nobody seriously believes Chronicle is better than Alfa, and we don't even need to talk about a healthy Leo.

posted 4 months ago

he's not better than Alfa or healthy Leo, stop it.

If a higher power told fnatic fans they would replace either Alfa or Chronicle with a mid, normal pro with the same agent pool every rational one would choose Chronicle.

posted 4 months ago

If you just look at stats you'd think Icy was a better jett than oxy (someone actually tried to say this in a thread a few days ago).

Nobody think's hes better than Alfajer, let alone Leo.

posted 4 months ago

and how can someone be the best of all time if he's never been better than his own teammates? (ever)

I bet half the people saying Kendrick were max 4 years old during Wayne's peak, and I love Kendrick.

posted 4 months ago

The thing is tho mechanics isn't just raw aim (which i think Less is the best ITW at anyways). If you look at mechanics at a whole aspas is better.

  1. Aim - Primmie
  2. Movement (General) - Aspas
  3. Agent Movement (raze, jett, neon) - Aspas
  4. Awping/scoped weapons - Aspas

Winner: Aspas
