Masters and Champs is good as a best on best competition but if you want actual passion and rivalries to grow, we need to make the domestic leagues feel more than just qualifier events and make them mean something to the players as more than just a stepping stone to masters. I dont know how they do that, but I just think the riot has fundamentally fumbled the IL system and made it so regional play rarely feels like it matters. IDK what the solution is that wouldn't lose riot money bc my solution is to cut the number of Masters and Champions tourneys to just 2 like how League does it to make regional leagues play more and develop rivalries as there's now fewer opportunities to play in the big stage and international play feel actually special and unique and offer a chance for the different regions to actually cultivate different play styles.

rivalries need to be grown organically bro, pushing bullshit rivalries down our throat makes no sense, that's not a problem of riot managing the scene bad its just how these things work. Plus most rivalries are gonna happen in domestic competition anyway, stuff like 100T vs SEN and FNC vs TL are rivalries bc of regional proximity and regional beef, what reason would an NA team have to beef with a KR team

smh that whole thing where they couldn't make Masters Berlin was a sad ass situation, they probably wouldn't have made it out of their group bc of Sen and G2 but damn they didnt even get the opportunity to prove it in game

mostly those meat substitutes are there for vegans who like the taste of meat but find a problem ethically with consuming it, whether its because of the pollution the meat industry causes, animal rights concerns, etc. The people who just dont like the taste of meat will just straight up not eat meat

FPS games are a recent phenomenon in Japan, their intro into the FPS world was Apex Legends, and by that point the rest of the world has already developed ecosystems in other games like EU did with CS, KR and NA with Overwatch, NA with Call of Duty, CN and KR with Crossfire etc. basically all the other countries in the VCT landscape have already built in cultures around FPS gaming and especially with objective based and tactical shooters like Overwatch, TF2 and CSGO, so they started off at a better place and had a new playerbase that already understood things such as agent roles, map control, utility use, trading, and other fundies of valorant while JP has to basically build all of that from the ground up

100T has been mid for fucking years atp. Asuna's a good player but at this point I think he just has a job as a duelist player bc everyone's blinded by nostalgia from the 2020-21 days when he was absolutely a top level duelist player when at this point in his career he's average at best. This team constantly has some problem, whether its they don't have the right players, or their coach can't implement a good system, and it just seems like there's a systemic issue with all of 100T esports ventures where they are doomed to be mid as fuck, their only successful venture has been their CoD teams, everything else ends up being dysfunctional (100T CSGO) or mid (everything else)

edit: saying this as a dude who's been watching 100T esports since 2019 at this point, I've seen every single iteration of this valorant team and every single one of them has been hyped up to oblivion and disappoints. The closest we came to success was Masters Berlin 2021 and we haven't come close since

have fps games ever really been popular in Japan? I know that they're very good at fighting games, i only rlly watch smash but I know they got aMSa in ssbu, miya acola raru and shuton in ssbu, and Evo Japan is a massive event, but I was under the impression that games like CSGO, and R6 never really caught on in Japan. I know that they're pretty good at Apex Legends tho, and valorant is obviously popular but it doesn't seem like they have a real legacy in fps esports the way EMEA KR and NA do with their history in CS, OW, R6, and other massive FPS esports

roles in this game are pretty bad tbh, each "role" in this game has like 2 sub roles they could reasonably be split into and I would have very little complaint, like while both being controllers, you play viper and omen in very different ways, but the average player doesn't really know that and expects their smokes player to always be passive when omen isnt as good at site anchoring or lurking as viper and should be together with his team in the main push or enabling aggressive defender sided plays

I kinda like MIBRs, the design is a pretty decent homage to Brazilian football jerseys, I think maybe could have been done better with the actual design but I like that they tried something like that instead of the normal athletic shirt with a logo on it shit

I think I just really like collared jerseys tbh tho bc that 100 Thieves 2022 Rugby shirt inspired jersey is one of my favorites of all time, and jerseys like the 2007/08 chelsea kit and the 2022/23 man united kit are some of my favorites in sports

well the entire purpose of gc is as a developmental system to get women and marginalized people into tier 2 and the wider valorant ecosystem so if gc teams dont give a shit about getting to tier 2 then something needs to fundamentally change about the entire system to change this ideology

posted about a year ago

well that just goes against the entire purpose of having the gc circuit in the first place, its express purpose is to facilitate pathways for women and other marginalized populations into esports but if you just stick them in their own circuit and never interact with the wider esports ecosystem then how are they gonna make their way into the competitive valorant pyramid

posted about a year ago

well a good way to help teams improve would be to expose them to better competition, if SR and other gc powerhouses just stomp on objectively inferior competition all the time that's not exactly conducive to growth which is why I think getting them a guaranteed challengers spot may be helpful to the development in the scene in the long run

posted about a year ago

I'm not gonna be a weirdo here and say "why do we need game changers if women are equal to men" bc thats just stupid, but there's a real problem with pathways from GC into the tier 2 scene. The way it stands right now I don't see any real incentive for a top tier GC player to EVER compete in tier 2, as GC teams have more consistent support from orgs as well as more guaranteed salaries. Why would someone who's on a top tier GC team to ever move to a tier 2 team if thats the case. There needs to be better pathways to facilitate gc talent into tier 2, but i don't really see how, possibly by making the top gc team from a region auto qualify into that region's challengers system?

usually when a team opens up their permaban they have some type of plan or gimmick they think has a chance to carry them to a win but the whole win condition was give Jinggg reyna and let him try to dick on 100T

the ranking system is an elo system that heavily favors good T2 teams, I think there should be a poll system where vlr writers make a top 10 or something and then we just compile their rankings and that's our ranking

edit: OXG would still be top 3 NA tho

posted about a year ago

1550 depends on ur def of a good college, if you mean top 20 then yes you will probably need at least a 1500 but to get in ur local state flagship? depending on location (ie. not a state where the state flagship is a t20 like Michigan or California), you can get away with a much lower score and still get a very good quality education

idk ppl can get burnt out pretty quickly if they do too much of anything, I'd rather my players play the game less if it means they are more focused during practice or on game days vs having them be tired and unmotivated to play the game because they spent 5 junk hours playing solo queue every day. Still a bit concerning tho that they really rarely play ranked there's probably a balance to be found there between playing absolutely no ranked and only playing during specific practice times and playing too much where they get burnt out and unmotivated to play they game
