except retard has been used as a regular insult and not directed at the mentally disabled for years until some random group of twitter users decided it was a slur. The only people who genuinely care about its usage are chronically online and need to realize there is much worse things to worry about.
except that is not how that happened lmao. from the 90s early 2000s ppl have considered it a slur until 2010 federal law in the US (the other places too) decided to change it. its change to become a regular insult was never a thing. why do you think its controversial to use it? bcos its a slur thats why ppl use it, its a stronger word than just saying idiot or stupid bcos you know what it means. it wouldnt matter if it wasnt right?
