it aint bc of g2 bud, there was like no storyline this event, no hype around this event, quality of skill in the matches were pretty much at an all time low (apart from Madrid) and the crowd was shit.

I dont support any of the Bangkok teams and so I may as well somewhat support one and so I chose g2 since they looked the best in terms of skill.

i may be blatantly wrong but i liked the madrid storyline more. kc going from worst team to one of the best, benjy fortnite goat first international, paper rex barely losing once again (pretty much a staple for internationals lmao), geng surprising everyone, and sen clutching a win with the new core as 2 of their careers die down

2024 storylines
Madrid (Either tenz gets a second trophy and sacy is first to win a masters and a champs trophy, very mid storyline) or Pacific gets their first trophy (Big storyline).

Shanghai you had Pacifics first trophy again and TH storyline was a sub winning an international and th are a new team with little expectations.

Champs you had Chinas first trophy and TH here didnt really have one tbh.

2025 storylines:
Bangkok:
Stax and buzz duo finally getting a trophy after getting 5-6th so many times and Ascension team winning an int.

Only other storyline I can think of is I guess edg getting back to back trophies and being first team to win a champs and a masters and sen might be 3 trophies but these arent real big storylines.

Ultimately, champs 2024 alone had more storylines than this event and its the quality of the storylines that matter not the quantity.

Next year when we look back at this event it will be mostly forgotten just like Madrid which was deemed as the best event in valorant history back in early 2024.

Vlr has a serious case of recency bias.

I can understand some people thinking the storyline was good but a lot of the rounds u just kept hearing people screaming at the top of their lungs which was very annoying and there was minimal hype in the crowds compared to other regions (sort of an asia crowd thing tbh). Like there was legit only 1 time where the crowd was chanting something and it lasted less than 10 seconds.

this isnt my main disagreement with you tho, I just don't see how u thought the quality of skill was good, like it seems obvious it was gonna be low this event bc of the new meta change 2 weeks before vct started but most teams apart from t1 seemed to be playing without a purpose. Like I saw very little anti strating (apart from t1 and some occasional g2 plays). Most rounds teams had no plan apart from just seeing how the round plays out and adapting from there. G2 were the only team that knew how to combo util with tejo as well.

Overall it just felt like a repeat of Madrid.

G2 being the first ascension team to make a grand final and T1 being the underdogs coming into Bangkok with Buzz and Stax finally lifting a trophy as well as Meteor being a 2x and Izu and Sylvan winning too

Not the best but my top 3 for sure!!!
I mean c'mon! VIT, DRX, EDG, G2 and T1 man!
For the first time in a while, I felt like any of these team could beat the others.
Was and will be a SUPER competitive year!

Eh, it was ok but it mostly felt like a game of who can be the least inconsistent/who's individuals will turn up when compared to other events

Trace disappointed after showing a lot of promise at Seoul and regionally
SEN bombed out completely
Liquid looked kinda out of their depth
DRX choked
VIT and EDG both fell apart in the playoffs
T1 looked incredibly questionable all throughout Kickoff and in their opening game then kinda just came out of nowhere to win it all

G2 were the only team I thought looked consistently good and even then they got smoked in their first game vs EDG and didn't even win the finals

It's the first year of the event, to be expected and for what it is it was pretty good but we can't be putting it up there other events that have been WAY better

Finals and crowd were great but personally I don't think I can faithfully argue the event that was 90% "Oops one team shat themselves" instead of "Wow, these are some crazy interesting well thought through outplays" is anywhere near the top of the list.

Even if some of that shiting themselves was occasionally pretty funny.
