what has actually happened to fpx? like what problems are causing them to be so much worse than last year - yes the rest of china has kinda caught up but internationally they still looked like they could somewhat be a threat. are they somehow worse playing better comps?

lysoar was an integral piece of the the puzzle they decided to drop him for more consistent firepower. the hole left by this move was very obvious now everyone on the team is nuts and has no discipline without a player to rely on to clutch and mid round them to the win. the org freaked out and now just dropped their coach because of the massive underperformance which in part has to do with the rest of china getting better (there are still feeder teams but nova, drg, xi lai, and blg are much much better than last year)
They fell off after Shanghai last year due to leaning into less structured and chaotic gameplay in order to surprise their opponents, except they often threw rounds because of it. Now it’s just because they are trying to bounce back. Removing NathanD was honestly a good move imo, they just need time to figure out how to become a more disciplined team.
