It's one of the portuguese words that Idk if exist a direct translation to english.
But, basiclly every single word of American English has influence of French.
Ik that France had a lot of influence in the creation, but even with the words?
Plus it is USA english bc Cannadians are also Americans and their english is kinda diferent.
ah ok. i think there are 3 types of influences on French.
1.) similar vocab from old days. like i think in old days nobles used english words cuz it was fancy, so u have words like beef and boeuf loookin the same. and then all that latin shit
2.) anglicismes .words exist en english but not in french and english global language, so we got people using these english expressiosns
3.) calques. in other words people bilingual because they consume so much english or for example quebec is so influenced by english you have people using phrases that are english construction.
