I think it's a form of escapism. It's not just shoplifting, it's also pairing it with lies at the same time but tbh havent seen the show in a hot minute so may be way off

i think most of the skylar hate is because she was cheating on walter and giving her side piece some of his money @ simultaneously
cheating on walter was shitty yeah, and the worst thing she did was the happy birthday scene lol but what she did doesnt even compare to what Walter has done
also she didnt give him the money for the sake of it, if IRS (or whatever americans call it) started looking into Ted's company for tax evasion, they were also gonna look into Skyler because some documents had her signature on it. And then they could have caught onto what Walter was doing if Ted didnt pay his taxes
hating skyler on a first view of the show is somewhat understandable. you know what walt´s intentions and what he does "for his family" so you´re on his side. its later on where you understand that skyler is 100% justified in the way she acts, sure cheating on him was a dick move but I mean, she was put in a very difficult situation.
