What do you think about the new DRX, especially the rookies Hyunmin and Athan?
I think both of them are doing well, but what do you think as a fan?
im feeling good about some things and tentative about others, honestly very strong about HYUNMIN and Athan they are acclimating very well and Athan has insane flexibility, util, instincts, etc. for such a new player. and even tho HYUNMIN has to reign it in some rounds where overheats (i think he is rather new to neon at this level, and may play less of it after the nerfs), i think he will be an absolute beast going forward. the only real concern is that free1ng's role switch and taking on IGL kind of changes this roster's peak from the previous iteration with him on senti; individually on RA, he looked like a surefire top 5 player in the world imo just on individual skill, his positioning, pre-aim, flicks, multi-kill ability was just absolutely different when he was on his most comfortable role w out calling, i think the roster could have done better w getting maybe yoman instead of Athan and having Flashback play flex, but ig another concern could be why Flashback has switched roles so often and always landed back on senti; could obviously be cuz hes insane on it, but it could also be he doesnt like changing roles or has some kind of issue with it
I think Flashback style just suits DRX a lot better. DRX has alr seen a drastic shift in performance level when he’s off senti vs when he’s on(even if Flashback himself doesn’t play worse) Example: vct pacific stage 2 group stage when foxy9 was still playing senti, vs playoffs when they switch flashback back to senti
HYUNMIN has all the qualities of a future star duelist, if there was ever a player with the potential of reaching the level of BuZz or even surpassing him(i think he will with time) It’s him. The roles Athan played in the soop event made me more confident in him bc it seems like he’s an actual flex. He shows flashes but needs more time since he’s new to pro play. free1ng actually is pretty good for a playing who recently started as igl, good fragging and makes solid adjustments without the need for timeouts. Also it seems he’s much more willing to igl than MaKo was.
ofc yeah, which was why drx last saw success in set-plays during lock//in and got slammed by a proper counter-exec team like LEV 23
I'm saying from a visible "teamwork" perspective and giving examples, not necessarily saying that set plays are key to winning nor saying that they're viable in the meta.
