You guys are overthinking it
Shes just good at the game
Since Mortadelo is informative and overall a nice guy, let me emphasize what he is trying to say here more clearly, Florescent bot was signed not coz of the performance in trials but also coz it's overall a PR move that brings a lot of attention to an organization that is well aware of their position among the teams for the 2025 season.
I added some of my flair to the comment coz I just can't be bothered to show any ounce of respect to Riot's shvitty policies
Apeks is never gonna get into franchising, they're not nearly big enough. But yes this is a fantastic move, not necessarily PR move as in "Oh let's sign a girl make our image better" but more with the objective of solving every small orgs main issue, that no one actually gives a fuck about them. This move brings attention, whether it is to support or to hate a bunch of people care about Apeks now and are gonna watch the games and talk about them. At the end of the day that's where money is at and how you create fans
And just so I make it clear, I'm not saying that's the reason she got picked up. I'm saying if you like 2 players in try outs very similarly, stuff like this is the kind of thing that can totally tip the balance.
Again the original leak post said that she was among the best players they trialed, not the best. Whatever that means is unknown considering it could be anything from group of 3 duelists, to 3 overall players that could fill either of the spots, or 5 players where 2 got picked by/chose other teams etc...
Happy to clarify 👍 we had 3 top candidates at the end of trials, Flor was among those 3 best options. After interviews and internal discussions we all agreed that she was the best option. I can understand why people think it was a marketing or business decision but that's very short-sighted in my opinion. Signing a GC player is a good marketing decision IF you perform, otherwise it's a poor marketing decision. Business-wise, there would be nothing worse than losing our spot in VCT, and nothing better than finishing top 4. Every decision we have made, and will make, is with performance in mind. The two other candidates were also good candidates, but scored lower than Flor in a few performance related aspects. Those players in question have also received feedback from us on where we felt they fell short.
Edit:
If you look at our CS history you can see that we have had way more success with developing talent, than signing prolific profiles. We entered Valorant with everything we have learned in CS, and so performance and talent development has always been the foundation.
Apeks' is doing an AMA rn on Reddit, and answered about Flor's trial. https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/1h7yi31/ama_w_apeks_general_manager/
