fns knows he is old and his mechanics aren't up to the mark even though he has a great brain for the game AND he did say that he wants to leave space for the newer talent and players.
and about s0m he has a really good following and earns a lot from streaming while having to live a stress free life and it is sustainable in the long term while competing..? who knows about competing what if he falls off what if he cant play for a while for some reason etc etc.

Both of them in the scene for quite a while and both of their skills are declining would rather leave themselves then be forced to leave due to skill issue plus it is more profitable to be a content creator no idea why they came back to save NRG

you have to understand being 2nd place is the worse than being last
kickoff means nothing as it had no prize money
c9 as an org have been hunting for a win since the beginning of valorant
and "play for fun" is just a pr thing

It's just what they feel and think. They are not wrong, s0m can probably earn more streaming and fns's mechanical skill is very low compared to other players. But they both chose to compete so obviously they have hunger. Self evaluation is a good thing

Well fns is pretty understandable he's 31 and on route to 32, his aim isnt that good anymore plus he's already a champion so it's fine if he does retire while som is just not hungry ,he will earn more by streaming but he's still goated , lol , american players (the talented ones) just aren't hungry enough to create a legacy like s1mple or faker, cause considering even simple or faker could earn more by streaming.

s0m used to be very competetive but since last year hes been streaming and hes grown a very nice fanbase on twitch that watches him every day
He averages like 8-10k viewers so he probably earns more from streaming than pro play
Obviously hes gonna feel less motivated to win in pro play, hes probably just playing cus fns told him to XD

The only regret FNS would have is winning a champs trophy and he knows he probably wont win one since his team right now < OPTIC 2022
s0m is still very young at the age of 22, he still has 3 years where his mechanics can still compete with younger players in VCT, and his watchparty are giving him tons of fans and money
