Do you think the future or past of soccer is better? Personally my childhood growing up with all these past players is the best not saying the future is bad but we prob's wont see a new messi or ronaldo anymore both the goats. Can't forget the past where ozil being on another level for arsenal too. Another one modric leading his nation from group stage 2014 to 2nd in 2018 world cup and even 2022 ending 3rd place etc.

Current football is like watching a robotic simulation, while the past was more intuitive, creative and free flowing

2000's until early 2010's were the best, probably influenced by ferguson leaving but still loved waking up early on sundays to catch match of the day

Past
Current players barely attempt to flex their individual capabilities… a lot of the time from academies to senior teams players are taught to be system players and just pass and move, build triangles… rarely attempt 1v1s, takeons or any flair

im going to let it out that in some parts, the past is often embellished and the present is often overlooked. In terms of players tho, it'll be harder to see players like Messi, who is just a complete footballer in terms of attacking, but with the advanced technologies in training, conditioning, etc we could see players scoring good number of goals and lasting longer. Plus players like Muller, Gotze, Isco, Ozil's position is not very preferred nowadays as much as it did. Change of tactics and playstyles will impact what kinds of players we will see too.

tldr: Its useless to see which is better since its hard to compare. Can't say which is good or bad since there are too many factors.

Number 10 s (Ozil & Riquelme likes) are more and more rare.. this position is vanishing in modern football and it's so unfortunate, those players tend to create magic with every ball they touch.
I think the past is better in a way there's more creativity and more space to let the talent express itself. Nowadays, I feel like the better players are more and more machines relying mostly on their stamina and strength. If we look at Haaland for example, he's arguably the best centre forward atm, but he's nowhere near the past top centre forwards technically speaking even though I'm pretty sure he'll break many and many records.
