anyone got some good single player game recommendations?

I like games focused on world building and story, can play any genre really as long as its somewhat engaging and isnt a rockstar game

favourite games off the top of my head are: NieR Replicant, Disco Elysium, LoZ: Wind Waker, Final Fantasy X (only played 7 and 10, i have 9 but only played 2 hours a couple years ago) and Hollow Knight

COD campaigns are very meh to me, played up to BO3

If you like world building, I recommend the FromSoftware souls games. Elden Ring would be the best first option out of all of them, but they can be pretty light in the actual narrative, aside from maybe Sekiro.
Edit: Nvm, just saw your first reply

Hades has a fantastic narrative with great characters and world building. Your enjoyment will come down to if you like rogue-lites.

Have you tried the God of War series?

Hades is great, played like 200 hours of the first one and 50ish hours of the second but ive also played every roguelite and roguelike there is because its one of my favourite genres (3k hours in binding of isaac lol)

Ive watched all of GoW 2018 and Ragnarok because I dont have a playstation but now that the first one is out on PC i might try it, are the first ones good as well?

Hmm alright. How about, instead, the Mass Effect or BioShock series?

a friend told me mass effect aged really badly recently but idk i might try it

is there a proper order to play bioshock because i tried to play infinite before and i felt like i was completely lost

Mass Effect 1 hasn't aged incredibly well, but I think 2 and 3 still feel pretty good, especially with the remasters. ME1 is still very worth playing imo.

BioShock Infinite takes place separately from 1 and 2, but I would still recommend playing 1 and 2 in order first before Infinite because it just adds so much more depth to the whole game. There are some easter eggs and connections that tie back, but you don't HAVE to play the others first technically.

you can get pretty much all of them for pretty cheap so ill get them and see how i like bioshock first i think

Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor are Incredible single player games and so are the Force Unleashed games. Assasins Creed 2-3 (2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and 3) are all amazing single player games, a lot of people also like Black Flag as well. GTA V has an amazing story mode and so do most GTA games tbh.

i forgot about those star wars games, not really into star wars but can you play them as someone who isnt?

AC3 i should have as one of my favourite games, even though the story is very hit or miss I love teh actual gameplay

rockstar games piss me off because of how bad the gameplay is lmao

Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor definitely benefit from having knowledge of the Star Wars franchise and a lot of moments of the story do kind of boost other parts of already known star wars lore but you could definitely play them as someone that isn't all that interested in Star Wars, it very much feels like an easier FromSoft game. Especially Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor is significantly harder and has more upgrade options. Think of it as a souls type game just with Lightsabers.

is the diffculty similar to wukong? if its harder than that then probably not for me otherwise i think ill try it

I have not played Wukong but I have beat both Fallen order and Jedi Survivor multiple times. They both have difficulty settings so you could lower the difficulty if it gets too hard.

ok thanks, ill definitely look at it because that spot between god of war 2018 and souls like seems like my favourite difficulty in games, thanks

Cyberpunk 2077 if you can get it at a discount. One of the best written and best looking games. The combat is super fun and the devs made it easy to mod so you can go wild.

i bought the game at release, tried to talk to jackie, fell through the floor and my pc blue screened

now that the game is fixed i might try it again, just dreading that starting point that ive played through 3 or 4 times at release

There are save files from nexusmods.com that skip to Chapter 2 but leave all the activities incomplete. Playing the first chapter more than twice is definitely a pain.

Yeah, I'll just make it easier for you for when you get around to it:

https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/8799?tab=files&file_id=46839 a save file for female street kid character
https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/718 this is a save editor that you can use to adjust the save above (change gender, attributes, weapons you own, storyline etc). Neither mod requires anything else, just follow the instructions.

In terms of single player games (as long as you arent put off by the turn based nature) baldur's gate 3 is as good as it gets in 2024

Just a throwback to when AAA games were actual passion projects with so much effort and detail put into the world
So much random stuff to discover, actual choice (not the bethesda special that everyone does nowerdays where you get to click but the outcome is the same anyways) and a genuinely good implementation of a ton of dnd mechanics

Edits:
Webbed: Spider web swinging game. 10/10 mechanics. Shit is what people think they played when they gush about spiderman 2's swinging mechanics. Very short (7-11 hours id say to 100% it) and doesnt have a big story, but does well to let you explore a fun little world and interact with the various insects

Crystal Project: a classic JRPG but with focus on exploration (uses platforming a ton). Semi long (50 hours to be properly done with it). If you enjoy the old school JRPGs this ones gonna be really fun, otherwise safe to skip

Monster Sanctuary: Pokemon like game, but again good platforming, lots of exploration and refreshing battle system. A bit on the harder side but not to an unfun level. ~30 hours to play through it.

(Noticing a trend of what I play yet? ill mix it up a bit)

Cave Story (+): The classic. You probs already played it but if not ya gotta give it a shot. Pretty good platform shooter that helped elevate indie games to the big stage. 6-12 hours.

Moss: Book 2: If you have VR otherwise cant play this one. Amazing cute little action adventure game. Very short (6-8 hours max) but well polished and one of the best implementations of VR ive played to date.

Any Ori game: Platformers. Youll know this game as soon as you see a screenshot of it. Art if it was a game, and the gameplay isnt bad either. Both semi short... like 12 hours?

my only issue with baldurs gate 3 is the length, i dont really like games that are too long because i know ill get bored

even when i played nier replicant, i got all 5 endings in 2ish weeks because i knew if i stopped at one of the endings i wouldnt come back andi cant really do that with a game as big as baldurs gate 3

ye the game does drag on, but in a good way?
You can easily complete the game in ~20-30 hours on your first playthrough if you focus on the main story
I only took 110 hours to finish it the first time... very short game yes yes

But then I do feel like it'd a waste and youll be served by shorter more focused games ye

Ill edit my original reply if I think of some shorter fun single player games with that in mind^^

yeah maybe in the future and im more patient with stuff then i can sit down and play it through fully, feel like it would be a waste with the way i play stuff right now

Hard to not recommend rdr2, best single player game ever made imo, idk why you hold grudges against rockstar but i suggest give rdr2 a try and you won't find any single player games better
