How do guys feel about the new promotion format for VCL promote to VCT?
For the people that does not know the new format:
-12 franchises team cap instead of 14 teams
-The team that promote has one year in VCT instead of 2 years
-If make top 8 in the league you don't downgrade in tier 2 but relegation fight for the spot
-Make champs an extra year
It's good for tier 1 viewers, as it keeps the league more competitive and prevents ascension teams from just being terrible and at the bottom of the league like Bleed and M8s, and also helps teams that perform exceptionally well (G2). But at the same time, it offers basically no security to ascension teams and gives them very little time to improve.
Personally, I think that if Riot want to avoid relegation of franchise teams, to encourage teams to invest more into the scene, then they should have 8 franchise teams and 4 ascension slots, so that there is a much smaller likelihood of two teams "locking" down ascension or being unwilling to invest due to limited security.
Bad for viewer : We complained about not enough game
Bad for T2 : Now going T1 make it irealist and desensitize investment
Bad for T2 team that manage to go T1 : Spending too mush money for noting is crazy
Bad for Riot : Less investment in T2
But yeah, stabilitywise I can understand, val isnt big enough for 14/16 team yet, and growing too fast could break everything... I just hope in few years when Val will grow we gonna go to 16 team, so kickoff format will be better (ANd if we go to 16, we will be able to keep the 2 year safe)
