I understand that this will probably be Jinggg's last year competing due to his obligations to conscript under "National Service" in Singapore. Any Singaporean users know if there is a chance for him to apply for deferment considering how much success he has in the esports scene? He's only 19 and it is a waste of his prime years if he can't compete for the next 2 years or so.

Our national sports athletes got to defer until 26 to take part in international events (i.e Joseph Schooling), but I guess esports is still nowhere near as significant as sports?

It's because of the old SEA conflict called Konfrontasi. The first president was a communist sympathiser, so when the UK tried creating the Malaysian Federation. The communist party in Indonesia (PKI) opposed that Idea even though the Indonesians were mildly supporting the federation. In Brunei, they were slightly reluctant to the union since they wanted to keep the sultan's power and rich oil. But when some of the politicians in Brunei wished to oppose the unification. The opposition then launched a rebellion that Indonesia allegedly funded and trained ( They failed and fled to Indonesia ). Then the coalition condemned Indonesia, and Brunei ended up not joining Malaysia. They also then created an agreement that the people of Malay needed to choose if they wanted to enter Malaysia. They slightly disregarded this agreement and went to sign the federation in Britain. Indonesia then feels this federation signing is too hasty and illegitimate while insulting Indonesian independence. So the first Indonesian president launches an attack using volunteers that disagree with the federation. After the volunteer coup, a race riot happened in Singapore, and they blamed Indonesia for staging it. Malaysia then complained to the UN, but Indonesia countered it with that the race riot occurred because of Malaysia's inequality. The US then interfere with the Confrontation, and Indonesia then Join the Chinese communist. Indonesia then withdrew from the UN while uniting with Beijing. This causes some economic problems in Indonesia. Then a coup happened in Indonesia, and the first president was replaced with a president who hated communists. A mass genocide occurred in Indonesia, killing around 500,000 - 3,000,000 people connected or suspected of communism. The Confrontation ended during this coup, and Indonesia rejoined the UN while leaving its communist allies. The coup happened due to the US CIA's interference and help by supplying them with radio and material since the first president at that time was a communist sympathiser. Singapore then parted ways from Malaysia and started its national service to protect itself. Some people say this is all the CIA's plan to change the Indonesian regime to a non-communist since this happened during the cold war, and the US failed to attempt to blackmail the Indonesian president.

Nope, it's because of the location, infrastructure, stable politics (due to effectively being a one-party state), favourable tax laws and business friendly regulation. However all these factors kind of do act as a defense, because many countries are benefitting from those foreign companies investing in Singapore. This discourages anyone to attack

Emergency can come anytime without warning and in a country w less population military strength will be quite less and u cannot be dependent on other countries cuz noone can be trusted during wars and ll etc

Again lets not get too political here, but if Singapore were to get genuinely attacked by a strong military force, their best bet is to surrender. Their National Service won't help them if we are being for real, the country is too small and too much key infrastructure everywhere to attack. Easy country to attack but it's not intelligent to attack it

I do understand the point but I am just saying it's not really worth the economic cost (if there is no genuine military threat). That's a few years of a Singaporean not being able to majorly contribute to their economy and having to use taxpayer money within that program. For education regarding emergencies, it's probably better to integrate it into a school curriculum of some sort.

it's more of a deterrence factor; in that if you attack Singapore, she will fight back and bring you down with them. So a lot of risk and resources have to be expended to conqure Singapore, deterring other countries from invading.

Well, i will think more on the basis of war in the modern era. The wars that takes place from now on, will barely fought by humans until the 2nd or even 3rd strike and more so on the invading part. Moreover, the first strike will always be from distance like jets, warships, rockets and maybe even nukes and based on singapore location they won't have a army type battle soon.

(i don't criticize SG having NS policy, its good for them, these were just my thoughts on SG and wars.)

you might have different point have here, but ill suggest you to look on new defence updates. the most scary things are the UAV drones. (just for context, a 5 person team of uav fleet can easily take on 5000-10000 soldiers if they dont have technology to deal with drones.)

As i sayed i think NS is good policy for a country but they need to invest more in technology first.

Also a random fun fact India has apx(25lakhs) military personnel and our population is apx(150 crore) do some quick maths and 1 military personnel guards 600 people
