yeah you're able to more or less understand what portuguese are saying if given enough time, but in high pressure situation, when 4 portuguese players are comming really quickly, it'll be almost impossible to understand without having learnt proper portuguese beforehand. And talking portuguese is obviously not even imaginable within (at least) the next few weeks

most high schools make you take a foreign language class and almost always offer spanish, altho he mustve rlly gotten into it bc the classes tend to be not the best

yeah in texas where I live high schoolers who take spanish all 4 years of high school and 1 year in middle school become fluent once they graduate or can at least hold basic conversations if they BSed all their tests and stuff. verno prolly did the same too.

I've been to Brazil on vacation multiple times and while I could communicate enough to get my meaning across with spanish, a conversation is still very hard and I don't think it's realistic in a team game unless you study quite a bit.
