Unbeaten International Wins

Here are the list of teams that have won international events while going unbeaten.

SEN - Masters Reykjavík 2021
ACE - Champions Berlin 2021
FNC - LOCK//IN São Paulo, Masters Tokyo 2023
GEN - Masters Shanghai 2024

Interesting Facts:

  • These unbeaten runs seem to have happened in some of the least competitive events to date
  • SEN are the only team to do it without dropping a single map
  • FNC are the only team to do it twice
  • GMB (Masters Berlin 2021), LOUD (Champions Istanbul 2022), EG (Champions Los Angeles 2023), SEN (Masters Madrid 2024), and EDG (Champions Seoul 2024) were all one game away from going unbeaten

I doubt we will see many more unbeaten wins, as the competition is heating up. A team would have to be extremely dominant for that to happen.

Not really. If we assume both of the teams that make the finals haven’t lost in groups which is really not that rare at all, there’s more than a 50% chance to get an unbeaten champion

No? Unless we have another LOCK//IN one of the teams in grand finals would have come from the lower bracket, meaning they have already lost.

Exactly, that’s literally what I said, read it again. I think you missed the part “If we assume both of the teams haven’t lost in groups which is not rare”. From that point on there is a 50% chance (realistically it’s much more) of getting an undefeated winner

Exactly, it’s and the upper team is supposed to be better and have 2 bans. It’s really really not that rare

I see what you mean. But the probability of getting two teams in the Grand Final that went unbeaten in the group stage is lower than you think. There have been 10 events where there was a group stage and only in 4 of them was the Grand Final contested by teams that went unbeaten in said group stage. The probability probably gets even lower for events when both Grand Final teams were in the group stage because for some events one team gets a bye straight to the playoffs.

People still refuse to call that Fnatic roster the best of all time

Lowkey wouldn't it be the recent winner? Because FNC fell off and now EDG is the best so wouldn't they be the best? Maybe I'm dumb.

Yeah I'm saying this EDG is the best oat since they won the most recent and competitive tournament.

can edg win back to back internationals? (bonus for domination considering fnatic was very dominant up til EG)

They either get grouped or Top 2. No in between

People write off a 4th place position as nothing. It's probably affected by the sheer number of SEN fans, but SEN gets way more hype for winning madrid and coming 4th, than FNC did for winning back to back then placing 4th

could be because sen looked washed in the midseason so getting to fourth feels like a comeback whereas fnc was so dominant that them getting fourth felt like a letdown (even though any team that can make top 4 at champs is incredible imo)

EG vs PRX on Pearl in the uppers was one of the most remembered throws ever, EG should've went flawless but then again if they didnt then there's a chance we wouldn't have gotten the banger that was EG vs LOUD. That throw was like the one and only hiccup EG had from the start of Tokyo to the end of Champs
