Franchising: Good or Bad

Are you as fans enjoying franchising, or do you think an open circuit would be better? In my opinion, as someone who is just getting to know the pro scene of val, think that franchising locks a lot of the orgs away from the game, however a more structured esports scene is probably better for investors.

i dont think we will see the full effects of it until around year 3-4 when we have more ascension teams in franchising. biggest complaint i have this year is the formmating for the splits has been awful

With the new format 2 ascension teams will be all we will ever see

There used to be, but when they introduced the new rules where ascension teams only ascend 1 year with the possibility to stay based on performance something that went unnoticed is that it's now capped to 12

From now on, if neither of the 2 ascended teams make playoffs they will both be relegated regardless of anything else. If they make playoffs they get to play in Ascension to fight for throat spot. And if you make champs, as long as the other ascension team doesn't do it too and place higher you get to keep your spot 1 more year. As far as I understand it at least

still seems like too little for the teams but ok

yeah I don't like it either. UCAM CEO made a post when it came out saying this is terrible for orgs and that many can't afford to ascend for just a year, that the cost of doing it would be around 2 mill and a massive loss if you don't get to keep the spot at least 1 more year

I feel like riot will just kill off the tier 2 scene and it will just turn the teams into a constant change of players

franchising is just better tbf, i dont see a world where an open circuit cold out compete what we have today. t2 is getting sacrificed a bit but its better in the long run for investors and also job security. certain orgs just wont dissappear and good players can keep playing.

I didn't quite understand out compete, but don't you think that tier 2 getting sacrficied just fucks the scene talent pool?

it is but security over anything else. it is sad that certain teams will jsut have it a million times harder to ever make it to tier 1 but i would rather have a valorant scene thats growing and where players/employees doesnt have to be dropped due to financial reasons. so many orgs came and went before franchising. once the scene grows big enough then ill support relegation/promotion.

but EG still axed their champions winning lineup due to salary

yes but the org itself didnt go bankrupt and disappear, and the players had a choice to take a lower salary or let a team buy them out.

how is it fair that a roster which has just won champions has to disband because their management forces them to earn less, and when they pursue another offer with a higher salary they risk being kicked due to poor results and then never being picked up again

I think there should be much more room for ascension teams, but franchising helps esports be less risky for orgs which is huge because of how risky esports is as an investment

but most of the orgs who were around the top of valorant have had plenty of cash, no?

If there were no franchises, it would be impossible to make long-term projects.

but it is not a problem for games like CS and Dota, where the circuit is open, some orgs function there for dozens of years with new ones entering as well. Champs could easily make team bundles for participants of masters, champs as well, no?
