Kaplan about Sentinels Ascent comp

When asked about why are Sentinels running Deadlock comp on Ascent, Kaplan said -

"The biggest reason we picked up this comp was because everyone else is winning with it but we aren't which sucks.

Our attack is fine, but we have problems on defense with this comp."

Kinda sounds like desperation, no?
Also, having problems with defense while you have Deadlock is kinda crazy

and it's not like their attack is clean either

they can't really defend properly and they'll get shut down on attack, so how do you win

geng didn’t even play super good on ascent compared to their haven; they got a lot of gaps in their ascent comp but good thing fpx don’t play that map

i mean they went 3/5 on attack in rounds won which isn't bad at all on ascent (even if they won pistol)
deadlock shines in postplant scenarios mostly, but trading out flashes for deadlock is not a good choice

but defense is atrocious

2 sentinels doesn't = better defense... A kayo with A main info and retake flashes is a way better defensive agent.

yes i agree, see #13. my point was that the justification for having 2 sentinels is a better defense half, which sen didn't have.

mxs pioneered this ascent comp, i’m pretty sure, and they ended up losing to tsm with it to knock them out of ascension quals

it doesn’t work just because sometimes teams like lev win with it

nip ran it first back in china ascension i think, they were literally the first team to use deadlock in pro

but even then, nip had minimal success with the comp regardless, they had some good games but they ended up losing to drg to knock them out

this comp really only works if you have the shooters to execute the plays that are built around it and it doesn’t look like sen have that

NiP were winning against middle of the pack teams/teams of their level with this comp I believe

When they were up against the stronger/mechanically better opposition, NiP were getting shut down

The only team they lost to with that comp is DRG (who are miles better than them and also very very good at Ascent)

OMG bro kaplan......If it is not working, STOP. This is champions, instead of overcooking with these comps, how about you focus on having your players play to their strength. If the team is coordinated and playing off their win conditions, there would be no need for these deadlock picks.

It's just sad. He is not a bad coach but some of his decisions are ones I cannot defend. He tries but sometimes trying is not enough. Change needs to be done.
