How come there are so many korean players in VCJ? and how do the comms work?

Does korean education system teach japanese aswell?
or
is it that the 2 languages are similar enough that its easy to learn jap if you are already fluent in korean

even munchkin was on a jp roster

From what I've heard from my Korean friends the two languages are hella similar in grammar which makes them easier to learn and speak basically.

I'm learning japanese and the grammar is pretty much identical to korean which makes it a lot easier to learn

i heard they learn japanese pretty quickly but I'm pretty sure there are comm issues if the player is new to JP + japan has bigger competitive scene compared to Korea if I'm not wrong. Kr friend told me ages ago I might have gotten some things confused

A lot of Korean players play in VCJ because Japanese orgs tend to have better wages and working conditions iirc

In terms of language, it's not necessarily required to be completely fluent in it (unless you're IGLing), just enough to be able to comm properly

Koreans playing in VCJ has to be the result of Korean vct cannot get a grip itself. ( this is just tldr tbh)

But I'm not wrong right😭? VCJ's development has relied on VCK's player pool and it worked for VCJ too, but now even when VCJ's talent pool are starting to grow, orgs keep signing Koreans while VCK itself keep bleeding it's players. If the situation continues with no changes , VCJ's talent pool might rot away while only insiders actually knew their worth.

your right
but what do you mean VCK keeps bleeding its players
do you mean like not paying them enough ?
or keeping them in bad contracts?

#23

Not paying them enough money tbh and just by the fact that Japan's wages are higher than Korea's.
As for bad contracts I reckon it's just the same as any region ( jp included as well)

I think most of Korean players having more opportunities from VCJ to take a place of Tier 1 right now
Common people think VCK is not really competitive as much as VCJ
Some of VCK teams getting better this season but still people think VCK and VCJ has a gap between

In reality, if we pull all the Koreans in VCJ , VCK would be the best region in APAC rn tbh

It can be but there's no actual profits to other KR esports teams from the league
So I think it might not happen

The word order of Japanese and Korean is the same, and their pronunciations are similar. So easy for Koreans to learn Japanese.

there are lots of korean and japanese words that end up sounding very similar because they're both derived from chinese loan words its kinda funny

like the word for "promise" or "time"

VCJ pays better and tbh WAY more fans and interactions. Whats there not to like over there, its like a juiced up tier 2 korean scene but better. But I do think they should get rid of imports within 1-2 years if they really want to improve at a steady rate. Imo japanese talent are starting to be sustainable in VCJ.

VCJ is probably the most entertaining tier 2 scene for me, its got a lil bit of everything

VCJ being entertaining to me has to be because RiotJP actually invested money back to the scene (probably)

In Challengers, the Japanese team is larger than the Korean team. Good Korean players play in VCJ because Japanese teams pay a lot of salaries.
Basically, most Koreans are not good at Japanese. Most people only know basic word levels.
In Korean education, English is the most important second language.

I have a question, the views in VCK is truly abysmal and inconsistent as well ( ranges from 800 at minimal to 5k at best) , any reason why this happens aside from the fact that the orgs in vck are ( sorry) no namer orgs?

Koreans just aren't interested in Tier 2. Why would they seek out Tier 2 when they can bask in the glory of Tier 1? They're even more cold-minded than Riot itself, who ruthlessly abandoned Tier 2 because they're only interested in highest level competition. The same goes for wages. Koreans understand the fleeting nature of E-sports hype better than anyone else in the world, and in fact, Tier 2 players are paid accordingly.

Do you think better marketing will change any of that?

("Why would they seek out Tier 2 when they can bask in the glory of Tier 1") I'm sure there are people who don't feel this way but TO BE HONEST, I find this line of thinking to be quite arrogant , not talking about you of course.

eh nah. Why would they bother when they can gain experience and fame and money in other region (Japan) and potentially go to tier 1. Like iZu (meteor, munchkin etc..)

I'm not talking about the players of course, but that's not to say we're in a good situation. I'm just saying when you have imports coming put of japan winning shit , this will just end up as a long term problem for japan. We are developing Korean players when the name of the league is called valorant challengers Japan. This means less development on local players

The problem to me now lies on Korean Vct. Frankly speaking VCK has been too reliant on VCJ to develop kr talents.

Isn't it importing to win? T2 is also there to win to become T1, not to train players. That's why Riot didn't even let the Tier 1 Academy team participate. If you want to stop imports, remove each team's will to win. Otherwise, you can modify the vcj import rules.

I tried calling for change in import rules and I got called racist by some people hereπŸ’€.

Imma be honest , igzist can import texture but they ain't gonna win shit unless they get proper japanese player to win, relying on imports to win you games is just pathetic tbh.

Let's be real every year only one team gets to be promoted to tier 1 in each region I'm not even, not to mention you're not even facing your own subregion, you'll be facing the whole apac subregions. I can't see how importing players can win you games tbh.

What is a 'proper' win? Victory is victory. SCARZ almost achieved its goal, although it failed at one last step.. For the reasons you said, imports are the two birds with one stone, not only winning but also reducing the power of the KR T2.

#37

To me a proper win is when you win with whatever you have, meaning you win with your own players. I see KR teams can do that and I hope one day JP teams can too.

Maybe I'm being too harsh on imports, the point I'm making is ideally it's better for VCJ as a region to gradually rely less on imports. Imports did make VCJ stronger, but it just means we get to have better imports, not we got to have better local players.

Too many world class imports severly lowers the value of local players, even though ( in my opinion ) when you spread the imports equally to each apac subregions vcj is just as good as everyone contrary to what vlr has often believed. I just hate seeing cases like Yowamu and Xdll being invincible for most of their career because of role bias towards imports(as in yowamu's case) and communication issue ( I reckon that's what happened to Xdll during his stint in BLUE BEES)

and tbh SCARZ should have never won in the first place, SCARZ's project is just throwing shit to the wall and see what sticks (it never worked except last ascension). I find it appaling by looking at SCARZ's strategy of winning by ruining it's own scene

nah. If Korean tier 1 teams don't win for a long time, they'll just find another game. Before being reorganized into the Pacific League, Tier 1 VCK had no viewers.

  1. Japanese orgs offer a higher salary and Valorant domestically in Korea doesn't shine too much besides for Pacific
  2. Japanese and Korean are very similar, their grammar is basically identical with words pronounced the same so it isnt too difficult to pick it up and start learning
